Volunteer FAQ

“Volunteers are an integral part of Craft Lake City and are vital to the success of our festival. Without the volunteer help from our community, CLC simply would not exist.”                        —Angela H. Brown, Festival Director

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Our 5th Annual DIY Festival will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 and Saturday, August 10, 2013. Festival hours run from 5 p.m. — 10 p.m. Friday night, and noon – 10 p.m. on Saturday. We are excited to bring back our Science and Technology area for its second year, which will be held in the Gallivan Center’s Banquet Room next to the  200 South entrance.

Are volunteers still needed for 2013′s Craft Lake City DIY Festival?

Yes! We’re always in need of volunteers for the festival. As our festival grows each passing year, so does the number of volunteers needed.

Why should I volunteer?

Volunteers are an integral part of Craft Lake City and are vital to the success of the festival. Without the volunteer help from our community, Craft Lake City simply could not exist.

What does a volunteer actually do?

We have a variety of positions available to fit everyone’s interests, personality and skills. Click here for descriptions.

Sounds fun, how do I sign up?

Please fill out the volunteer application form here.

Please email us at volunteer @ craftlakecity.com to sign up.

Are there any meetings or trainings involved?

Yes. You will be required to attend at least one training session,  two weeks before the festival. Training sessions are generally one hour.

I am a returning volunteer. Do I still have to attend meetings/training?

Yes, elements change from year to year so yearly training is key for all of the information you’ll need to prepare yourself for the big event.  Training sessions are generally one hour and transpire two weeks before the festival.

What is the minimum number of hours required to volunteer?

We ask volunteers to sign up for a minimum of one 3-hour shift, but you are welcome to go above and beyond!

When do I need to be available to volunteer?

Set up starts a day before the festival on August 8. Volunteers will also be needed for both days the festival runs, August 9 from 5pm – 10pm and August 10 from 12pm – 10pm. Specific volunteer time needed are listed on the volunteer form here.

We encourage you to take advantage of Salt Lake City’s public transit via TRAX or Bus, walk, bike or even carpool to CLC.

Can I volunteer with my friend/family/person?

Yes! Volunteering is more fun with friends, so please help us by inviting your friends and family.

I have community hours that I need to incur. Can Craft Lake City help me accrue community service hours?

We have answers! Please send us an email to volunteer @ craftlakecity.com.

“By giving just a few hours of my time to help set up or pass out information, I’m giving the artists the chance to focus their time and energy to share with the community their talents instead of worrying about festival details. Not only did I have a great time helping but I also met some great people who I now call my friends.”                                                              —Shantel Mota-Harmon, 2011, 2012 CLC Volunteer
