Online Holiday Market Attendee FAQ

Online Holiday Market Attendee FAQ:

  • How will the Second Annual Craft Lake City Holiday Market be presented?

This year, Craft Lake City is offering a safer way to participate in our Annual Holiday Market and celebrate our favorite time of the year—Online Holiday Market with Virtual Meetups!

  • When will the Online Craft Lake City Holiday Market take place?

The Online Second Annual Holiday Market will take place from Dec. 4 through Jan. 4 on craftlakecity.com with two virtual meetups happening on Fri., Dec. 11 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Fri., Dec. 18 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

  • What will the Online Holiday Market look like?

The Online Second Annual Holiday Market will feature Utah-based artisans on craftlakecity.com through individual profiles complete with links to the artisan stores, social media sites and optional videos. Craft Lake City will also be hosting two Virtual Meetups on Fri., Dec. 11 and Fri., Dec. 18 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.. These virtual meetups will take place in a custom, holiday-themed virtual reality environment, and will give attendees and artisans an opportunity to interact, talk about the creative processes, and shop online stores.

  • How do I shop the online platform?

The Online Craft Lake City Holiday Market will launch on Dec. 4. Simply log on to craftlakecity.com anytime through Jan. 4 to shop! All exhibitor profiles will be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • What are exhibitor profiles and how do they relate to the Online Holiday Market

Exhibitor profiles go live on craftlakecity.com when the Online Second Annual Holiday Market opens on De. 4. These profiles provide shoppers with information about the work each artisan creates, complete with preview images, descriptions, price-points, professional bio, links to videos, social media and online stores. Exhibitor profiles are listed alphabetically but can be sorted according to shopping category.

  • How will product sales and shipping work? Will makers sell and ship work through their own stores, or will that be handled by Craft Lake City?

Craft Lake City requires makers to sell and ship their work themselves in a timely manner and under the criteria set by Craft Lake City. Please ask the artisan you are purchasing from about their shipping policies before you complete your purchase. Some exhibitors may offer a “local pick up” option.

  • Will attendees be able to interact with artisans?

Interacting with artisans, scientists, performers and foodies is part of the magic of the Holiday Market. Craft Lake City is implementing this into the online format by hosting two Virtual Meetups on Fri., Dec. 11 and Fri., Dec. 18 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.. These virtual meetups will give attendees and artisans an opportunity to interact, talk about the creative processes and answer any questions that may come up and of course shop! Craft Lake City recommends that attendees attend virtual meetups on a desktop or laptop computer for the best experience. We have found that the platform does not perform consistently on mobile devices.

  • What exactly are the Virtual Reality Meetups and how are they part of the Online Second Annual Craft Lake City® Holiday Market?

Join us inside our custom-made, virtual reality, holiday winter wonderland! Meet up with your friends and family in avatar form and explore frozen lands of enchantment. On your way, you’ll mix and mingle with artisans exhibiting in the Online Second Annual Craft Lake City Holiday Market! You’ll have the opportunity to chat with them and visit their online line store.

This two-hour event is an opportunity to connect with loved ones from all over the word in a unique and innovative way. Share the link with those you’ve longed to connect with and meet up in our one-of-a-kind, 3-D, virtual reality experience while introducing them to Utah’s creative community!

Two live virtual meetup events take place on Fri., Dec. 11 & Fri., Dec. 18 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Links to attend will be posted on craftlakecity.com closer to the event

These VR meetups do not require any special equipment, just your laptop or desktop computer. While some of the functionalities of our platform do work on mobile and tablets, the user experience varies from user to user based on phone/tablet type, operating system and cellular data. Because of this, Craft Lake City recommends using a computer with a reliable internet connection. Standalone VR devices (Pico Neo 2, Oculus Quest and Oculus Go) are also compatible with the platform.

  • I’ve never used Virtual Reality before. Is there someplace I can practice

Yes! We’ve created this navigation room for you to practice in before attending. Log in on with your computer and follow the on-screen prompts. You will need to create an avatar to enter the rooms. More info on creating an avatar below.

How to Create an Avatar:

One fun aspect of the Mozilla Hubs platform is creating an avatar! We may not be together in person, but this comes pretty close! Using a service called ReadyPlayerMe, you can easily create a custom avatar from a selfie. Everyone in our virtual winter wonderland will get to see a virtu

al version of you! Head over to https://readyplayer.me/ to create your avatar, and follow the short instructions for copying your own avatar URL to use in the Mozilla Hubs platform.

Craft Lake City used Hubs by Mozilla to create our virtual reality, holiday winter wonderland! Hubs is an experimental, VR-friendly, open source project that explores how communication in mixed reality can come to life. Hubs allows us to provide Utah creatives the chance to connect to audiences all over the world in a unique 3D, interactive, environment. Links to artisan’s webstores can be found throughout the platform.

  • Do you think this could lead to a platform where customers can shop from participating artisans year round?

Craft Lake City is pleased to already offer exhibitor profiles for all past festivals, where web visitors can browse through the participants and purchase from their shops. As long as social distancing measures are important to the health and well being of the community Craft Lake City is committed to providing a safe shopping online experience with virtual meets up and events.

  • Will there be opportunities to volunteer?

Volunteer opportunities are available for the Online Holiday Market. Learn more about these opportunities by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@craftlakecity.com.

  • How can the public best support Craft Lake City as an organization right now?

Like many 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, Craft Lake City has been impacted by the covid-19 pandemic. We are committed to presenting an incredible Online Holiday Market, but this requires the community’s support to make it happen. Please consider becoming a Sustaining Member of the organization or making a one-time donation. Financial contributions help us accomplish goals related to our nonprofit mission—especially in these difficult times.
