About: Although I do embrace technology, I LOVE learning old-school skills like spinning yarn and soap making. I think one of the greatest things about technology, is that old-school subsistence crafts, like these, no longer have to be purely utilitarian. With so many ingredients and tools right at our fingertips, old-school crafts can easily crossover and become a form of art. And it can be done without incorporating toxins that make up so many of the products available today.
This is what inspired me to create Spotted Hippo Soap.
I develop all of my own recipes from scratch based on the physical qualities that I want each soap to have. Then I design the layers, colors, and textural characteristics of the bars to make each soap visually unique and interesting. Finally, using essential oils, I develop scents that smell good and compliment the recipe and design.
I create each soap and achieve the desired colors and scents using only natural, organic, and sustainable ingredients. I make all of the soap in small batches using the cold process method and handslice every bar. The result: a high quality, hand crafted product that is all natural and bit fancy to boot!
