Craft Lake City Partners with the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council to Expand Scholarship Opportunities for the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons

In 2016, Craft Lake City started our DIY Fest Inclusion Program to make our Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival more inclusive to makers from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Craft Lake City is thrilled to be partnering with the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council this year to further expand our scholarship offerings for the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons by providing the ArtAbility Scholarship! This scholarship is specifically for people with disabilities who aspire to use their passion, skills and talents to build a small business as an artisan.

“UDDC is excited to be working with Craft Lake City and the DIY Festival to launch the first-ever ArtAbility Scholarship,” says Libby Oseguera, UDDC’s Executive Director. “We hope this funding opportunity opens doors for the wider disability community to come together and share their talents! Open access is an important role in supporting all people to fully participate in their communities. We know there are talented artisans who are also people with disabilities, and we look forward to highlighting new and existing DIYers in partnership with Craft Lake City.”

The ArtAbility Scholarship includes waived booth fees for participation in the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons and one-on-one mentorship from a seasoned DIY Fest exhibitor before, during and after the event. The scholarship recipient will train alongside our five Artisan Scholars as part of our Artisan Scholarship & Mentor Program, providing them with ample networking opportunities and support from a cohort of scholars and mentors. Craft Lake City is offering one ArtAbility scholarship this year, but we hope to expand this program in future years.

Application Assistance at the UDDC Office

This year, Craft Lake City will be hosting our annual Application Assistance Day on Tues., March 28 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the UDDC office to further support makers with disabilities in the application process. Application Assistance Days are free and open to anyone who needs support completing their application for the DIY Fest. Since providing quality photos is such an important part of the application process, we provide free professional photography services at these events to help applicants present their work at its best. Craft Lake City staff are on hand to answer any questions or help DIY Fest and scholarship applicants complete and submit their applications on site.

We also offer pre-recorded virtual support that prospective applicants can access anytime from anywhere and will be holding a virtual Q&A on Weds., March 15 open to all prospective applicants.

At the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons, makers can display and sell their handcrafted wares and connect with an incredibly talented group of other local makers, artisans, vintage vendors, foodies, youth entrepreneurs, performers, & STEM exhibitors — all while building their business & befriending thousands of local dedicated DIY Fest patrons!
