Salt Lake City, May 3 – Craft Lake City and The Gateway are pleased to present a Craft Cocktail Workshop Series in spring and summer of 2018. Each workshop will highlight a Utah-based distillery or brewery, featuring tastings and education from artisanal spirit enthusiasts. In each class instructor Natalie Hamilton will lead participants through the process of crafting their own custom cocktails, providing attendees with the recipes and hands-on knowledge to create lively libations at home.
Instructor Natalie Hamilton is a noted mixologist in the local craft cocktail community. Hamilton has managed the cocktail programs for Salt Lake City restaurants Finca and Tradition, and currently serves as a bartender at Under Current and Pallet. A past craft cocktail workshop leader for Craft Lake City, Hamilton is known for her bright cocktails and skilled instruction.
- May 9 at 6:30pm: Beehive Distilling
This workshop will showcase locally distilled barrel-aged gin from Beehive Distilling. Beehive is known for their small batch distilling processes used to create artisanal spirits that pay homage to Utah’s history. Hamilton will demonstrate the recipe and process for crafting a delicious Spice Route cocktail featuring blackberry sage shrubs, handcrafted simple syrup, Bitters Lab bitters and more, mixed to perfection with Beehive’s Barrel Reserve Gin. Small bites will be provided by Laziz Kitchen. - May 23 at 6:30pm: Waterpocket Distillery
The second workshop will highlight Waterpocket, a local distillery restoring forgotten recipes and crafting adventurous new spirits. Co-owner Alan Scott will offer tastings and discuss the botanicals and techniques used to make Waterpocket’s distinct liqueurs and amaros. Natalie Hamilton will then walk participants through the process of making their own at-home amaro (a deliciously bitter Italian digestif), and the spirited evening will conclude with attendees crafting a flavorful cocktail they can replicate at home. Small bites will be provided. - June 13 at 6:30pm: Kiitos Brewing
The final workshop will focus on Kiitos Brewing, a local microbrewery producing uniquely crafted beers with ancient techniques and modern methods. Attendees will enjoy delicious beer samples and learn more about Kiitos Brewing, including their emphasis on the conservation of resources. Hamilton will then provide a hands-on demonstration for making a custom Hops and Chamomile Simple Syrup for tasty beer cocktails. The workshop will conclude with participants crafting their very own dessert drinks featuring Kiito’s Coffee Cream Ale. Small bites will be provided.
