Create your own embroidered landscape in an NHMU Craft Workshop presented by Craft Lake City! Local fiber artist Rachel Erickson of Olive + Thread will teach attendees the basics of embroidery using three fundamental stitches. Participants will go through the step-by-step process of making an embroidered hoop inspired by Utah's Arches National Park, and will leave with the skills and knowledge to create future fiber projects of their own. Materials will be provided. This is a beginner-focused workshop and no experience is necessary.

Clay Jewelry Workshop (ages 21+)

Create your own clay jewelry in this Craft Lake City workshop at Alibi! Bianca Velasquez (aka Tiny Messy) is a local musician, writer and artisan who creates bold jewelry and items for the home. In this workshop, Velasquez will provide a basic introduction to making jewelry from polymer clay, guiding attendees through the process of shaping and baking the material into statement earrings. Participants can make Valentine's Day–inspired conversation hearts or create geometric jewelry for year-round wear. This workshop is the first in a series of crafting opportunities at Alibi Bar & Place in SLC. Please note that attendees at this workshop must be 21 years or older, and are invited to purchase specialty cocktails to sip while crafting.

Local maker Marti Woolford is ready to show you the ropes of macramé in this hands-on workshop at Gallivan Center! Macramé is the art of making decorative and functional objects from knotted cord. Attendees will learn basic macramé principles and techniques, and then apply their new knowledge to create an intricate, hand-knotted plant hanger to take home. Please note that the plant and pot provided in the workshop may differ from photo.

This workshop was so popular, we added a second! Create your own tea light candle holder in this introductory glass art workshop at West Elm! Local artist and educator Sarinda Jones will discuss fundamental concepts of glass fusing and slumping, as well as demonstrate the process for properly cutting glass. Students of all skill levels will then assemble glass pieces into functional sculptures in the color pattern of their choice. Sarinda will take the assembled glass objects back to her Salt Lake City studio for firing in her kiln, and the handmade candle holders will be ready for pickup with a tea light two weeks later. Please note that this class involves sharp glass, super glue and tools.

Craft Lake City is pleased to present another flavor-filled workshop with talented craft foodie Ana Valdemoros of Argentina's Best Empanadas. Join us as we explore Argentina’s tasty Italian import, gnocchi pasta. Participants will learn three vegetarian-friendly recipes for the pillowy pasta dumplings, using potatoes, beets, and spinach to create three vibrant varieties. Workshop attendees will then master new techniques as they mix, cut, fold, and cook the gnocchi. The workshop will conclude by attendees enjoying their culinary creations with delicious sauce prepared by Valdemoros. You'll want to serve gnocchi with every dish after this class!

DIY Leather Journals

Join us for a fun evening of sewing and crafting leather journals at Alibi Bar & Place! Local artisan Amanda Parramoure of My Leather Legacy has been binding books for more than a decade, and she began teaching journal workshops in 2016 to share her love of bookmaking with the community. In this Craft Lake City workshop, Parramoure will teach attendees how to fold, punch, and long stitch acid-free paper into pre-punched genuine leather covers. Participants will choose between blank, lined or bullet journal paper, and will carefully tear the edges of all 192 pages for a deckled-style edge. Parramoure maintains an uncompromising commitment to quality in her workshop materials, and she will provide a variety of leather colors to help attendees customize their reusable and refillable 4.5”x7" journals. Attendees at Alibi Bar & Place workshops must be 21 years or older, and will have the opportunity to purchase specialty cocktails to sip while crafting.
