Kombucha Workshop

Beat the summer heat by learning how to make your own refreshing kombucha and fermented drinks! Instructor Erika Longino is the founder of The Mobile Moon Co-op, a group that promotes working with the land, plants and fungi for a healthier way of life. Workshop attendees will taste delicious kombucha samples, learn about the fascinating history of fermentation, and watch a demonstration for safely brewing kombucha and water kefir. Participants will leave with the knowledge, recipes, and starter batches to confidently make beneficial brewed drinks at home.

Join us at West Elm City Creek as Heather teaches us to create beautiful earrings by forming linear shapes from copper and brass. Heather will torch the metal prior to the workshop, and each attendee will drill, bend, and pound two pairs of unique, handmade earrings to wear or share.

Experienced local artist Chris Blackburn of Blackburn Studio uses vintage processes to create beautiful tintype photographs and cyanotype prints. In this Craft Lake City® workshop presented by West Elm at the 10th Annual DIY Festival®, Blackburn will teach participants how to create sun-printed cyanotypes using foliage and foraged materials. Attendees will collaborate to make a larger-than-life wall hanging, and then Blackburn will assist individual participants as they create cyanotypes on paper and fabric to take home. Natural Indigo Dye & Shibori Workshop

Presented by Craft Lake City and NHMU, this workshop will be taught by Amy Stephens of Root + Rise Botanicals. A specialist in natural wellness and herbal infusions, Stephens will demonstrate how to use natural dyes and fibers to create vibrant cloth products. Attendees will learn about the rich tradition of shibori, the Japanese art of manual resist dyeing using various folding techniques, and then dip and dye their own indigo hand towels. Amy Stephens is a local artisan specializing in natural wellness and herb-based creations. Her company, Root + Rise Botanicals, is a small batch personal care line that provides a vehicle for relaxation and connection to the natural world. Her herb-infused products include oils, balms, powders, and naturally dyed fibers.
