Fall has arrived and you are invited to celebrate with Craft Lake City's second workshop at The Monarch in Ogden’s Nine Rails Creative District! Local artisan Kirsten Moore of FreckleFace Collective makes eccentric, upcycled and handmade pieces to enliven your living space. In this Halloween-inspired class, Moore will walk attendees through the fun process of mixing, molding and pouring a pumpkin or skull-shaped concrete plant holder to take home.

Handbound Softcover Journals with Watercolor

Discover the art of bookmaking in this beginner-focused NHMU Craft Workshop presented by Craft Lake City! Local creative Claire Taylor is ready to teach you how to adapt a simple bookmaking stitch into a more complex form. In this hands-on workshop, Taylor will guide workshop participants through the creation of two book forms as they build on their bookmaking skills using the pamphlet stitch. Workshop participants will also learn about bookmaking anatomy, nature drawing, watercolor techniques and scientific drawing practices. Each attendee will leave with a handbound, softcover book form that can be used as a notebook or journal, and each participant will have the option to add watercolor to the cover for a personal touch. Materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.

Knit Beanie Workshop

Local creative Kristin Baird of Kit’s Crafts has been knitting and crocheting for over two decades. In this Craft Lake City workshop at West Elm, Baird will introduce attendees to the basics of knitting. Participants will learn about the different yarns and tools used for the craft, and will practice two elemental knitting stitches. Various combinations of the two stitches will be provided so that participants can advance their skills, if desired, to create a plush beanie to wear or share for the holidays.

Metal Earrings Workshop

Artisan Heather Leeflang’s jewelry is designed to present complex ideas reduced to their most minimal forms. In this fun Craft Lake City workshop held at The Monarch in Ogden's Nine Rails Creative District, Leeflang will teach us how to make beautiful earrings by forming linear shapes from copper and brass. Leeflang will torch the metal prior to the workshop, and each attendee will drill, bend, and pound the metal into a pair of unique, handmade earrings.

Peppermint Soap Workshop

Local makers Jennifer and Derek Williamson are the owners of Olio Skin & Beard, a company committed to creating natural, plant-derived skin, beard and shaving products. In this hands-on workshop at the Gallivan Center, the Williamsons will guide attendees through the basics of creating their very own peppermint-scented face and body soap. Workshop participants will learn about cold process soap-making, including how to safely work with lye (students are encouraged to wear long sleeves). Attendees will handcraft festive soap during the workshop and then take it home to cure for 4 weeks, making it ready for gift-giving just in time for the holidays!
