Get artistic in this Craft Lake City workshop at The Gallivan Center! Talented local artist and educator Kara Aina will guide attendees through an exploration of various watercolor techniques, color palettes and basic printmaking skills. Participants will then use their new knowledge to create a stylized mountainscape painting to hang at home. Materials will be provided and no experience is necessary.

In this NHMU Craft Workshop, presented by Craft Lake City, Susi will walk you through the step-by-step process for creating an embroidered hoop inspired by the natural world. You will leave with an embroidered work of art to hang at home, as well as the skills and knowledge to create future fiber projects on your own.

Craft Lake City is pleased to present another fun and flavor-filled workshop with talented craft foodie Ana Valdemoros of Argentina's Best Empanadas! Valdemoros started selling freshly baked empanadas at the Downtown Farmers Market in 2006. Ten years later she opened the popular Argentina’s Best Empanadas storefront in downtown Salt Lake City. In this workshop, Ana will teach attendees how to handcraft Argentine-style empanadas in two mouthwatering flavors: savory traditional beef and sweet apple dulce de leche. Materials will be provided for each attendee to make and enjoy one dozen empanadas.

Tif Blue is the making maven behind Peach Treats, a local business specializing in custom, one-of-a-kind jewelry and bold statement pieces. In this beginner-focused workshop, attendees will learn about the origins of the chainmaille technique of jewelry creation. Participants will practice how to use jewelry tools and jump rings, and then make their own pair of gold, silver or copper-colored earrings to wear or share.

Macrame Plant Hanger

This NHMU Craft Workshop, presented by Craft Lake City, will be taught by artisan Marti Woolford of marti makes. Woolford will introduce attendees to macramé, the art of making decorative and functional objects from knotted cord. Participants will learn about the history of the craft, practice techniques for tying knots, and evaluate patterns used in macramé textiles. Woolford will then teach attendees to apply their new knowledge and skills to make intricate, hand-knotted plant hangers to take home.
