Salt Lake City, UT — July 21, 2022 – Many Utahns know the 14th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented by Harmons for its annual showcase of performers, the three-day event always offers a diverse and unique collection of Utah talent both revered and undersung. Part of this showcase involves a selection of performers who specialize in traditional and regionally specific styles from all corners of the world. Years past have seen Mexican folk dancers share the Festival stages with Bollywood performing troupes, and Irish bagpipers in spontaneous on-stage collaborations with didgeridoo artists. The 2022 Festival continues this tradition of cultural celebration with a lineup of performers offering songs, dances and more from around the globe.
On the Festival’s opening night, Friday August 12, O’Nkosi E Afrobeats Live SLC and A&A Bollypop perform on the KRCL stage, providing contemporary updates on traditional sounds. Saturday features virtuoso guitarist Anthony Garcia performing solo flamenco guitar pieces on the KRCL stage, while the SLUG Mag stage boasts Puerto Rican drum-and-dance group Bomba Marilé (a returning DIY Festival performer after a standout 2021 showing) and hula performers Halau Ku Pono I Kamalani, the latter a part of the Craft Lake City DIY Festival’s Pacific Island Heritage Month Day celebrations. On the Festival’s final day, Dream Life Production Kongo offers African drums and dances while Katya Murafa performs Romani melodies on her violin as part of our roaming street performer showcase. All in all, the weekend promises a showcase of globally inspired music that both honors tradition and carries the historic styles into new, exciting territory.
