For nearly a decade, Craft Lake City has been animating the evolving cultural district of downtown Salt Lake City through public art installations. Presented by Craft Lake City, in collaboration with Center for the Living City and The Temporary Museum of Permanent Change, Celebration of the Hand and Local Voices are our two seasonal outdoor exhibition series displayed in 14 large frames – also known as plakats (German for “poster”) – adjacent to the sidewalks along Broadway (300 South) between 200 West and 200 East. The exhibit is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week free of charge and features visually inspiring artwork meant to engage viewers and passersby.

Celebration of the Hand

Informed by activist Jane Jacobs’ fascination with self-organized urbanism, Celebration of the Hand is a seasonal outdoor exhibition designed to enhance and reflect Salt Lake City’s cultural district through the work of Utah artists. Celebration of the Hand exhibitions focus on conveying central themes and ideas, making them relevant to our community through art. Craft Lake City commissions works of art from local Utah artists for these rotating exhibitions. 

Local Voices

Local Voices installations highlight the inspiring work of Utah-based organizations in an effort to connect the community with ideas that matter. Both of these exhibitions are displayed in fourteen metal frames adjacent to the sidewalks in downtown Salt Lake City, on the north and south sides of Broadway (300 South) between 200 West and Main Street. These exhibitions are open to the public 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and are free of charge.
