Job Opportunities

  • Community Events Assistant
    The Community Events Assistant will be responsible for the support and/or on-site coordination of outreach events in communities throughout Utah. Craft Lake City’s Community Event Assistant is interested in the local maker movement, is familiar with Craft Lake City’s programs and mission, and has a passion for sales and event management. The Community Event Assistant will serve as a public ambassador for Craft Lake City, and will work to ensure a positive experience for community event attendees and partners.

    Responsibilities
    -Serving as a representative and ambassador of Craft Lake City at various community outreach events during the year
    -Setting up and breaking down Craft Lake City’s table or booth in each venue
    -Interacting with the public to promote Craft Lake City programs
    -Selling Craft Lake City merchandise and tickets to meet internal sales goals
    -Coordinating craft activities for the public at certain community events
    -Managing volunteers as necessary
    -Maintaining a clean and organized area during the event
    -Sending images and info to CLC’s social media manager during the event
    -Returning all event supplies to CLC headquarters
    -Providing photos from the outreach event to CLC
    -Assisting with post-event reporting as needed

    Qualifications:
    -Prior experience with event coordination
    -Experience in sales and/or arts programming preferred
    -Exceptional organizational and customer service skills
    -Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner
    -Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
    -Ability to adapt and be flexible in an event-driven, nonprofit environment
    -An interest in creating meaningful relationships between Craft Lake City and the community
    -Ability to perform under stress; stress management skills

    Requirements:
    -This is a seasonal, part-time position with hours that fluctuate depending on CLC’s schedule of special events.
    -Must attend required meetings and production training
    -Must be able to commit to work the public hours of the events with additional setup and teardown specific to each program
    -Must have your own laptop and vehicle
    -Must be comfortable lifting chairs, tables, and other supplies

  • Web Developer
    Craft Lake City is looking for a Programmer that has an interest in learning and managing updates to our custom-built digital festival application.

    This is a contract, part-time position with a weekly time commitment of 2-5 hours per week with increased hours during the Fall and Spring.

    Qualifications:
    -Exceptional communication skills
    -Knowledge in front and back end development in PHP/HTML/CSS/JS
    -Experience in MySQL database management system
    -Knowledge of wordpress
    -Knowledge of APIs with JavaScript and JSON

    Requirements:
    -Must have access to email daily
    -Must be able to commit to working 2-5 hours per week

  • Hiring Coordinator
    The hiring coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment & hiring of the Craft Lake festival team, development of training programs & strategies, and the retention of event staff by building relationships & overseeing the organization’s culture of “Work hard, have fun and be nice to people!”. This is a part-time, contract position with a weekly time commitment of 10-15 hours, with increased workload during peak hiring times & weeks leading up to the DIY Festival.

    Responsibilities:
    -Maintain the year-round staffing needs for the organization
    -Manage job postings, employment-related community outreach, and applicant airtable database on behalf of the organization
    -Create a training strategy for DIY festival/Holiday Market team, facilitate team orientation
    -Manage festival hiring needs & objectives through recruitment, applicant pipeline, & interview processes
    -Manage the time tracking & invoicing of festival employees
    -Create strategies for employee retention, including the development of staff perks & coordination of team celebrations

    Qualifications:
    -At least 2 years experience in hiring & training teams
    -Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    -Ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
    -Organized and efficient in ability to document, manage, monitor and track data
    -Experience with workflow and information management tools such as Google Drive, Asana or Airtable a plus

    Requirements:
    -Ability to work 10-15 hours per week, with the flexibility of an increase of hours during peak times of hiring & training. Daily check-in required during peak hiring season
    -Ability to work extended hours at the DIY Festival from August 7-9, 2020 if needed
    -Ability to check email/communication platforms twice daily with flexiblity to address any time-sensitive items

  • Social Media Coordinator
    Craft Lake City’s Social Media Coordinator is collaborative, interested in local DIY culture, passionate about the nonprofit arts sector, and has a gift for creating clear and creative messaging for diverse audiences. The Social Media Coordinator will become intimately familiar with Craft Lake City’s programming, and will continually innovate and improve upon our ability to create mission-driven communications that resonate with the community. The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for social media efforts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter on behalf of Craft Lake City-- they will also create blog content and oversee the organizations’ e-newsletter.

    Responsibilities:
    - Overseeing social media and blog content on behalf of Craft Lake City
    - Manage a social media schedule and pre-plan content
    - Update and create content for the Craft Lake City Blog
    - Represent the organization via online networking groups and forums to help spread the word about our events and mission
    -Attend Craft Lake City events to create “live” content & compile content for postings
    - Focus on finding ways to increase our organic reach on all platforms
    - Create social media content as needed
    - Coordinating Craft Lake City’s monthly e-newsletter
    - Stay current with social media best practices, algorithms, etc.

    Qualifications:
    - Experienced in building followers on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
    - Content creation skills: graphic design, photography, videography, and/or video editing
    - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    - A passion for writing and creative storytelling
    - Ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
    - A keen eye for detail
    - Organized and efficient inability to document, manage, monitor and track data
    - Exceptional customer service skills when dealing with both colleagues and partners
    - Experience with workflow and information management tools such as Google Drive, Asana or Airtable a plus
    - Ability to respond positively to criticism, to self-reflect, and to change directions when necessary
    - Willingness to go above and beyond in order to make things happen
    - Direct experience with or education in marketing or public relations would be a preferred

    -Ability to work 10-20 hours per week (including weekends)
    - Split this time working in-office and remotely, at home or from events, as needed.

  • Event Production Assistant
    Craft Lake City is looking for Production Assistants who will work as a team to set up and tear down the Craft Lake City First Annual Holiday Market in Ogden. The Production Assistant is expected to remain on-site for key dates in the production schedule and to be on site for troubleshooting issues and supporting the team throughout the event.

    This is a part-time, contract position with a commitment of working December 6th, 7th and 8th, 2019, with the addition of preparation hours TBA and based on staff availability.

    Qualifications:
    -Must have previous event production experience, or experience in a position of similar skill set
    -Exceptional organizational skills and self-discipline
    -Desire to be involved in producing a creative experience for exhibitors and patrons alike
    -HONESTY—ability to accept responsibility when mistakes are made
    -Knows how to spell “team player” without an “I” or “me”
    -Ability to adapt and be flexible to the various tasks and situations of a not-for-profit world
    -Enthusiasm for collaborating or creating a project with complete execution, including refinement
    -Ability to perform under stress and manage large crowds
    -Must be friendly and attentive
    -Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 lbs and do hands-on physical work
    -Must be able to stand on their feet for upwards of 12 hours a day
    -Must be able to walk 10 or more miles each day

    -Must attend all scheduled staff meetings
    -Must be able to commit to working the weekend of the event, December 6th-8th

Internships

  • Artisan & Programs Intern
    Craft Lake City is looking for a new volunteer intern to join our office team. This volunteer intern will support the Craft Lake City Artisan & Programs Manager and other key staff members with the daily operations of the organization. The intern should have an interest in the local maker movement, familiarity with Craft Lake City’s programs and mission, and a desire to gain experience in nonprofit arts administration and event support.

    Craft Lake City is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City's flagship event is the annual DIY Festival held each year in August. We also offer year-round programming that includes workshops, exhibitions, and other special events.

    Intern Title: Artisan & Programs Intern
    Department: Programming
    Reports to: Artisan & Programs Manager
    Commitment: One year, 10 hours/week

    Year-Round Responsibilities
    -Support Craft Lake City management and staff with a variety of daily tasks, including data entry, correspondence, report drafting and event preparation.
    -Update online community calendars with upcoming CLC events each month.
    -Scan artisan paperwork and file into appropriate online folders.
    -Prepare post-event reports for venue partners, grants and sponsors.
    -Digitize survey responses from community events and workshops.
    -Assist with counting, organizing, and preparing supplies for CLC events.
    -Draft thank-you notes and other correspondence.
    -Serve as a public representative of Craft Lake City at select events, assisting with setting up and breaking down as needed.
    -Assist with creating event-related graphics for social media use.

    DIY Festival Responsibilities
    -Support Artisan & Program Manager with outreach and application follow-up.
    -Provide assistance for related trainings and programs, including support for RSVPs, nametags, meeting materials, checklists, inventory, etc.
    -Update exhibitor profiles on the website with cancellations and replacements.
    -Attend the DIY Festival as a Craft Lake City volunteer team member (Aug 4-11 2020), assisting as needed.

    Qualifications:
    -Positive and excited to support the local creative community
    -Organizational skills and attention to detail
    -Customer service experience
    -Maturity and ability to professionally represent Craft Lake City
    -Desire to help with tasks ranging from data entry to in-person event support
    -Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner
    -Knows how to spell “team player” without an “I” or “me”
    -Flexible and willing to adapt to the various tasks and situations of a not-for-profit world
    -Ability to bring your thoughts and ideas to the table in a constructive manner, and open to receiving constructive criticism on your own work

    -Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, social media, or website management a plus

If you are interested in working with Craft Lake City on a regular basis, consider joining our volunteer Marketing Team! Our Marketing Team helps represent Craft Lake City at community events such as the Downtown Farmers Market, Arts Day on the Hill and the Pierpont Gallery Stroll, just to name a few. Marketing Team members play a critical role by helping to educate the public about Craft Lake City and its programs. Team members attend regular Marketing Team meetings and trainings and participate in events throughout the year. Duties may include assisting with table/booth setup, staffing the booth to represent Craft Lake City and educate others, and working with the public to create make-and-take crafts.
