Brand Ambassador

Craft Lake City is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans and inventors while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City’s flagship event is the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival held each year in August. We also offer year-round programming that includes workshops, exhibitions and other special events.

Brand Ambassadors allow Craft Lake City to share our wonderful programs that we offer with the community, as a non-profit. A Brand Ambassador will be representing our organization through Craft Lake City’s booth outreach program. You will get to engage with the community directly and tell them about all the amazing work that we do! This is a great way to be more involved with Craft Lake City and help us further our mission to elevate Utah’s local craft culture.

Community Workshop Assistant

Craft Lake City is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City’s flagship event is the annual DIY Festival held each year in August. We also offer year-round programming that includes workshops, exhibitions and other special events.

The Community Workshop Assistant will be responsible for the on-site coordination of both hands-on or virtual craft workshops in communities throughout Utah. Craft Lake City’s Community Workshop Assistant is interested in the local maker movement, is familiar with Craft Lake City’s programs and mission, and has a passion for arts education and event management. The Community Workshop Assistant will serve as a public ambassador for Craft Lake City, and will work to ensure a positive, professional and educational experience for workshop instructors, attendees and venue partners.

Responsibilities:
-Serving as a representative and ambassador of Craft Lake City at various community craft workshops during the year
-Fostering positive relationships with workshop instructors and venue partners
-Setting up and breaking down the workshop area in each venue in collaboration with venue contact and instructor
-Assisting workshop instructor with supply load-in, set-up and load-out
-Verifying workshop ticket holders upon arrival (in-person workshops)
-Selling tickets to waitlist participants as necessary
-Providing presentations to attendees about Craft Lake City and upcoming programs
-Maintaining a clean and organized workshop area during the program
-Supporting attendees and instructors during each workshop as needed
-Posting to social media during and after the workshop
-Coordinating attendee surveys at the end of each workshop
-Returning workshop supplies to Craft Lake City headquarters
-Providing photos from the workshop to Craft Lake City
-Adding workshop responses to online form
-Completing post-event workshop assistant online form
-Assisting with post-event reporting as needed

Qualifications:
-Prior experience with event management
-Prior experience or willingness to learn and master online meeting platforms (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.)
-Experience in arts programming preferred
-Exceptional organizational, stress management and customer service skills
-Ability to adapt and be flexible and collaborative in an event-driven, nonprofit environment
-Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner
-Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.

Requirements:
-Must attend required meetings and production training
-Must be able to commit to work the public hours of the workshops with additional setup and teardown specific to each program
-Must have your own laptop and vehicle and willingness to use for workshop-related tasks
-Must be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, while simultaneously addressing attendees.
-Must be comfortable lifting chairs, tables and other supplies

STEM Program Assistant

Craft Lake City is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans and inventors while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City’s flagship event is the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival held each year in August. We also offer year-round programming that includes workshops, exhibitions and other special events.

This is a seasonal, part-time, contract position with a weekly time commitment of up to 10 hours, with weekly time commitments increasing in July and August leading up to the Craft Lake City DIY Festival. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program Assistant will be responsible for implementing STEM goals and building community relationships as a Craft Lake City representative at STEM events

Responsibilities:

 -Serving as a representative and ambassador of Craft Lake City at various community outreach events during the year (such as rocket launches, Craft Lake City STEM Labs events, STEM fairs, etc.)

-Assisting the STEM coordinator with additional miscellaneous clerical event preparation, marketing, and post-event tasks as needed (such as reviewing event plans, documentation and SOPs, press releases, and social media/misc. promotional content)

-Sending images and info to CLC’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator during events

-Assist in the curation and coordination of the Google Fiber STEM Building at the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival

-Cultivating partnership leads for the organization (reaching out to potential sponsors, donors, exhibitors, newsletter subscribers, etc.)

-Assist in coordinating STEM programming inside of the STEM Building, included but not limited to community workshops, partner demonstrations and the Craft Lake City STEM craft(s)

-Implement STEM programming, including hands-on activities at community events

-Setting up and breaking down Craft Lake City’s table or booth
– Interacting with the public to promote Craft Lake City programs

Qualifications:

-Prior experience with event coordination

-Experience in applied STEM or STEAM fields, information design, or education and outreach programming preferred

-Exceptional organizational and customer service skills

-Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner

-Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.

-Ability to adapt and be flexible in an event-driven, nonprofit environment

-An interest in creating meaningful relationships between Craft Lake City and the community

-Ability to perform under stress; stress management skills 

-Demonstrated experience working with science and education organizations and others in the STEM education field

-Keeps abreast of developments, research, and new technology in the STEM field

-Organized and efficient in ability to document, manage, monitor and track data

-Experience with workflow and information management tools such as Google Drive, Asana, Slack or Airtable a plus

 

Requirements:

-Must attend required meetings and production training

-Must be able to commit to work the public hours of the events with additional setup and teardown specific to each program

-Must have your own laptop and vehicle

-Must be comfortable lifting chairs, tables, and other supplies

-Ability to work 10-15 hours per week, with the flexibility of an increase of hours during peak times; Daily check-in required during peak seasons

-Ability to work extended hours at the DIY Festival annually during the second weekend in August

-Ability to check email/communication platforms daily with flexibility to address any time-sensitive items

-Ability to lift 20+ lbs

DEI Coordinator


The weekly time commitment is 35 hours, which begins immediately upon hire. Weekly time commitments increase in May, June, July and August leading up to the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival (August 2022) and in October, November leading up to the Annual Craft Lake City Holiday Market. The DEI Coordinator is required to be on-site for the duration of the DIY Festival and Holiday Market so working long event hours in the summer heat and outdoors during winter are factors you should consider when applying for this position.

DEI Responsibilities: 

– Work with the Executive Director and Craft Lake City Advisory Board to update the organization’s existing DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) improvement and outreach plan 

-Ensure that the Inclusion Program is up to date on local agencies that serve culturally diverse populations of individuals and implement practices into CLC that will ensure a more effective method of serving families who are not natively English-speaking

Manage Craft Lake City’s Community Inclusion Program 

-Work with the Artisan and Programs Department to co-manage Craft Lake City’s Artisan Scholarship and Mentor Program, Application Assistance Events, Application Fee Assistance Program and other scholarships-Manage Sponsored Families Program-Build and manage relationships with Community Partners to further the organization’s DEI initiatives as outlined by our DEI Strategic Plan 

-Work with Artisan and Programs Manager to book and coordinate Commercial Food vendors at Annual  DIY Fest and Holiday Market

-Work with Marketing & Communications Coordinator to share messaging about CLC’s Inclusion Program across social media and news outlets

Education Outreach:

-Serve as a representative and ambassador of Craft Lake City at various community outreach events during the year (such as rocket launches, Craft Lake City STEM Labs events, STEM fairs, Kid Row programs in public schools, etc.)

– Cultivate leads for the organization (reaching out to potential sponsors, donors, exhibitors, newsletter subscribers, etc.) while representing Craft Lake City at events

-Develop relationships to support educational outreach and programming with Title I schools

-Implement programming and including hands-on activities at community events

-Setting up and breaking down Craft Lake City’s table or booth 

-Interacting with the public to promote Craft Lake City programs at outreach events

Volunteer:

-Assisting Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting individual, company and group volunteers for Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival, Annual Holiday Market and working with CLC’s Community Events Assistant to coordinate the organization’s year-round brand ambassador team

-Designing and overseeing volunteer sign-up process alongside Volunteer Coordinator

-Developing and providing in-depth volunteer training

-Assist Volunteer Coordinator in distributing a volunteer thank-you and survey after the DIY Festival

Seasonal Positions

Join our paid team on a temporary basis and help us produce our exceptional Annual events like the DIY Festival and Holiday Market. It is a great way to earn some extra funds while contributing to something greater in your community!

DIY Fest Entertainment Coordinator

This is a seasonal, part-time, contract position with a weekly time commitment of up to 10 hours, with weekly time commitments increasing in July and August leading up to the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival. The DIY Festival Entertainment Coordinator is required to be onsite for the duration of the DIY Festival, so working long hours in potentially extreme heat are factors to consider and keep in mind when applying for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and recruit the talent lineup for the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival.
  • On-site managing entertainment logistics for the three-day festival
  • Ensure that the scheduled lineup is confirmed for event including last minute cancellations and additions 
  • Ensure performers are checked in and checked out on time
  • Ensure the entertainment schedule for all stages and performing areas is timely and accurate and listed correctly across all digital and print platforms 
  • Manage two Stage Managers that oversee two independent stages during the Craft Lake City DIY Fest 
  • Ensure the performers arrive onsite and are prepared to  load on and off stage
  • Handle the contracts and tax forms of the bands before the event 
  • Pay out the talent according to the set budget after the event is over
  • Support the CLC Team in marketing and recruiting the “Call for Performers” January 2023- April 2023.
  • Work with the CLC Team to notify accepted and rejected DIY Fest  performers 
  • Work with the CLC Team to market the finalized line up by coordinating playlist, band bios and other tasks. 

Qualifications:

  • Must have previous event experience
  • Previous experience working in extreme temperatures and/or inclement weather 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and self-discipline
  • Desire to be involved in producing a creative experience for exhibitors and patrons alike
  • Ability to accept responsibility when mistakes are made and work with the team toward a solution 
  • Ability to access email 2–3 times a day and respond in a timely manner

Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

 

 Craft Lake City’s Assistant Volunteer Coordinator would assist in a supportive role to the Volunteer Coordinator and Craft Lake City Volunteer Department. The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator would be responsible for overseeing the check-in, training, and coordination of volunteers on-site during the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival. The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator is organized, a natural leader, a clear communicator, outgoing and team player with an interest in supporting Utah’s creative community. This staff member will become familiar with all DIY Festival departments and assist in appropriate volunteer training and management to ensure a successful Festival experience. Additionally, the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator will support other departments during the event, providing breaks, added support, and quality customer service to artisans, exhibitors, performers, and attendees. Reports to the Volunteer Coordinator. 

Responsibilities

-Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in managing the DIY Festival Volunteer Lounge, overseeing volunteer check-in and check-out process when the Volunteer Coordinator is unavailable

-Assist in providing in-depth volunteer training onsite during the DIY Festival 

-Assist Volunteer Coordinator in determining volunteer needs during Events and monitor volunteer activities

-Escalating volunteer conflicts and concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator 

-Providing support to other department areas during events, including moving volunteers to new areas when appropriate and providing additional volunteer training when necessary

-Providing breaks for the Volunteer Coordinator and other staff members during events

-Assisting with decor install and maintenance of Volunteer Lounge including restocking snack, drinks, maps, handbills, and other materials needed by volunteers during events

-Assist in distributing volunteer benefits including volunteer t-shirts 

-Answering questions and directing visitors and other community members when needed

-Assist Volunteer Coordinator in overseeing volunteer program on-site at events and providing feedback for future programming improvements

-Assisting volunteers as needed

-Assist Volunteer Coordinator in distributing a volunteer thank-you and survey after the DIY Festival

-Food donation outreach and scheduled pickup coordination with Advisory Board members

-Assist Volunteer Coordinator in supervising Brand Ambassadors during tabling events

Qualifications:

-Positive and excited to support the local creative community

-Organizational skills and attention to detail

-Customer service experience

-Maturity and ability to professionally represent Craft Lake City

-Desire to help with tasks ranging from data entry to in-person event support

-Comfortable building relationships with volunteers on the phone, via email, on social media and in-person
