Social Media Internship

Reports to: Executive Director and Artisan & Programs Manager

Commitment: One year, 10 hours/week

Overview: Craft Lake City Social Media Internships provide digital marketers with professional experience. From learning the fundamentals of social media strategy and market research to content creation and community engagement, Craft Lake City offers Social Media Interns the opportunity to be part of a non-profit organization that works to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City fosters a highly skilled, creative, energized and empowered team. This is a year-long, volunteer internship position.

The Social Media Intern position plays a key role in the continued growth and success of the organization. Working with the Craft Lake City team, this position will support key communications functions such as content creation to help achieve our vision. The ideal candidate excels at providing creative ideas and drafting engaging messaging for diverse audiences. The Social Media Intern will become intimately familiar with Craft Lake City’s programming and will work to collaboratively innovate and improve upon our ability to strategize and execute mission-driven communications that resonate with the community and provide measurable results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively managing and creating communication strategies, both short- and long-term, to align with organizational goals.
  • Drafting and scheduling daily social media posts across Craft Lake City’s channels (Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, LinkedIn) while adhering to the brand style guide for consistent messaging.
  • Brainstorming and developing social media-related projects and campaigns.
  • Assisting with the pitching, editing and posting of video and photo content shot with a phone.
  • Support external communications by engaging with the online community, including responding to direct messages and comments on social media platforms, Tidio (website messenger) and voicemails on behalf of the organization.
  • Analyzing social media performance and engagement metrics, and preparing a monthly report for the Executive Director and Artisan & Programs Department.
  • Exploring and researching new ways to engage with Salt Lake City communities.
  • Assisting with various tasks related to marketing, events and social media as needed.
  • Adding Craft Lake City events and opportunities to community calendars.
  • Collaborating with the Artisan & Programs Manager to create social media strategies and maintain a content calendar for consistent posting.
  • Collaborating with the Artisan & Programs Manager to generate social media content for promoting workshops and other Craft Lake City programming.
  • Collaborating with marketing and design teams on digital campaigns to ensure timely delivery and high-quality content.”
  • Identifying opportunities to promote Craft Lake City’s programs to target audiences and media outlets.
  • Collecting and managing data to measure the success of communication efforts.
  • Supporting live event coverage and content creation on social media platforms.
  • Assisting the Artisan & Programs Department in planning and creating content on-site at events such as the LetterWest, DIY Festival and Holiday Market

  • Basic knowledge of social media scheduling tools (ex. Metabusiness Suite)
  • Basic understanding of social media metrics and analytics
  • Ability to apply and follow style guidelines for consistent branding

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Leadership and team-building

  • Experience with email marketing platforms and strategies (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc)
  • Experience with photo/video editing software is a plus (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite)

Requirements:

  • Ability to volunteer 10 hours per week in office
  • This is a part-time, unpaid internship
  • Ability to commit to extended hours at Annual Events like LetterWest, the DIY Festival and Holiday Market.
  • Must have your own laptop and cell phone, with willingness to use for Craft Lake City tasks
  • Must have reliable transportation, with willingness to use for Craft Lake City tasks

Workshop Assistants

Reports to: Artisan & Programs Manager and Programs Administrator

Overview: Craft Lake City is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art. Craft Lake City’s flagship event is the annual DIY Festival held each year in August. We also offer year-round programming that includes workshops, exhibitions and other special events.

The Community Workshop Assistant will be responsible for the on-site coordination of both hands-on or virtual  craft workshops in communities throughout Utah. Craft Lake City’s Community Workshop Assistant is interested in the local maker movement, is familiar with Craft Lake City’s programs and mission, and has a passion for arts education and event management. The Community Workshop Assistant will serve as a public ambassador for Craft Lake City, and will work to ensure a positive, professional and educational experience for workshop instructors, attendees and venue partners. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serving as a representative and ambassador of Craft Lake City at various community craft workshops during the year
  • Fostering positive relationships with workshop instructors and venue partners
  • Setting up and breaking down the workshop area in each venue in collaboration with venue contact and instructor
  • Assisting workshop instructor with supply load-in, set-up and load-out
  • Verifying workshop ticket holders upon arrival (in-person workshops)
  • Selling tickets to waitlist participants as necessary
  • Providing presentations to attendees about Craft Lake City and upcoming programs
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workshop area during the program
  • Supporting attendees and instructors during each workshop as needed
  • Posting to social media during and after the workshop
  • Coordinating attendee surveys at the end of each workshop
  • Returning workshop supplies to Craft Lake City headquarters
  • Providing photos from the workshop to Craft Lake City 
  • Adding workshop responses to online form
  • Completing post-event workshop assistant online form
  • Assisting with post-event reporting as needed

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with event management
  • Prior experience or willingness to learn  and master online meeting platforms (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience in arts programming preferred
  • Exceptional organizational, stress management and customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible and collaborative in an event-driven, nonprofit environment
  • Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner
  • Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.

 

Requirements:

  • Must attend required meetings and production training
  • Must be able to commit to work the public hours of the workshops with additional setup and teardown specific to each program
  • Must have your own laptop and vehicle and willingness to use for workshop-related tasks
  • Must be comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, while simultaneously addressing attendees. 
  • Must be comfortable lifting chairs, tables and other supplies

DIY Festival Seasonal Positions

Reports to: Beverage Manager

Overview: Craft Lake City is looking for enthusiastic DIY Fest Cocktail Servers that can provide great customer service for our 17th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons. DIY Festival cocktail servers will transport and serve beverage orders to DIY Festival exhibitors. The cocktail servers are responsible for receiving orders from the DIY Fest Beverage Controller and transporting drinks to corresponding vendors. The Cocktail staff is required to verify the vendor is 21+ and properly wristbanded. To succeed as a cocktail server, you should be friendly, proactive, and efficient. This position requires candidates to hold a Utah Sips and Tips Certification, or be willing to complete the training (CLC can cover certification cost).

This is a seasonal, paid, contract position for the DIY Festival held on Friday, August 8th; Saturday, August 9th; and Sunday, August 10th, 2025. DIY Fest Exhibitor Cocktail Servers are required to be on site for extended hours during the festival, so working long hours in extreme heat are factors you should consider when applying for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • You should be a skilled multi-tasker with a passion for customer satisfaction and knowledge of DIY Festivals beer and cocktail offerings.
  • Handling multiple orders and tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Cleaning and clearing cups from vendors.
  • Assisting with opening and closing duties.
  • Checking identification to ensure customers are the proper age to purchase alcoholic beverages.
  • Standing, walking and carrying heavy trays of food and drinks.

Qualifications:

  • A customer-oriented approach
  • Handling multiple orders and tasks in an efficient manner
  • A friendly, attentive attitude.
  • A passion for providing customers with high-quality service.
  • Ability to manage crowds
  • Experience may be preferred, especially if serving beverages.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and carry heavy trays.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to work at peak hours.
  • Must be over the age of 21
  • Must be TIPS Certified in the state of Utah, or willing to get certified (CLC can cover cost) 
  • Must attend 1 staff meeting/training prior to the event
  • Must be able to commit to working the 2025 DIY Festival August 8, 9, 10
  • Must provide transportation to and from scheduled shifts at the Utah State Fairpark
  • Must be able to lift and carry 10-15 lbs and do hands-on physical work
  • Must be able to stand on your feet for upwards of 8 hours a day
  • Must be able to walk 10 or more miles each day
  • Must be able to endure summer temperatures of 90 degrees and above 
  • No drinking while working

ID Checker

Reports to: Ticketing & Gates Manager

Overview: Craft Lake City is looking for ID Checkers who are wonderfully enthusiastic and can provide great customer service at our 17th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons. DIY Festival ID Checkers will be staffed inside the festival, checking ID’s & wristanding incoming guests to ensure that they are over the age of 21 & eligible to consume alcohol at the event. 

This is a seasonal, paid, contract position for the DIY Festival held on Friday, August 8th; Saturday, August 9th; and Sunday, August 10th, 2025. ID Checkers are required to be on site for extended hours during the festival, so working long hours in extreme heat are factors you should consider when applying for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Friendly, well-communicated, able to navigate crowds with a confident attitude 
  • Must be able to stand/walk for extended hours during the event
  • Must prepare for warm/fluctuating weather conditions, as this position will be outside for the duration of the event
  • Must be knowledgeable about the DIY Festival programming & geography (training provided) 
  • Must display confidence in ID checking procedure (training provided)
  • Must be a communicative, positive person

Requirements:

  • Must be over the age of 21
  • Must be TIPS Certified in the state of Utah 
  • Must attend 1 staff meeting/training prior to the event
  • Must be able to commit to working the 2025 DIY Festival August 8, 9, 10
  • Must provide transportation to and from scheduled shifts at the Utah State Fairpark
