Craft Lake City partners with local venues to provide these in-person crafting opportunities in a variety of fun and atmospheric settings. Take a workshop to perfect a skill, kick-start a new hobby, meet like-minded people and support the local maker movement!

Southern Utah Gouache Painting
Thursday, November 21, 2024 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm MST | $45
PBS Utah | 101 South Wasatch Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84112
Join us for an inspiring evening of gouache painting at PBS Utah taught by local artisan Steph Alpizar of Trekking Turtle Studio! In this class, Steph will guide you through the versatile medium of gouache, paint that blends the fluidity of watercolor with the richness of opaque color. You’ll learn techniques for layering and manipulating this sustainable, non-toxic medium to create a stunning painting of a Southern Utah Landscape.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave with your own finished painting and the skills to continue using gouache on your own!
This workshop is in celebration of PBS Utah’s new documentary Hollywood in Utah.
All supplies provided and no experience needed.
Autumn Wreath Workshop

Join us for a fun and hands-on wreath-making class at Holladay City Hall to create stunning mini wreaths, led by local flower farmer and artisan Heather Barnes of Calluna Flower Farm! This beginner-friendly workshop will guide you through the basics of wreath design and construction. You’ll explore various techniques for assembling and decorating your mini wreath, incorporating natural elements to create a vibrant, on-of-a-kind piece.
By the end of the class, you’ll leave with your very own gorgeous wreath that makes the perfect festive gift, decor or ornament and the knowledge you need to continue crafting from home.

Sunset Watercolor Painting Workshop

Learn the basics of watercolor & landscapes then create a vibrant watercolor landscape painting at this dynamic workshop at Millcreek Common taught by local artist & watercolor maker Nancy Andruk Olson of Brighter Day Pigments! In this beginner-friendly class, you will learn a variety of techniques for using watercolors, then apply them to create a vintage postcard-style landscape painting at sunset. By the end of the class, you will leave with the knowledge you need to watercolor all your favorite scenes, a finished landscape painting and your very own set of handmade watercolors!

Felt Mushroom Garland Workshop (21+)

Create your own handmade decor just in time for the fall season at our 21+ Felt Mushroom Garland Workshop, taught by Susie Barnard of GinnyPenny! In this class, Susie will guide you through the ins and out of turning wool felt into plush mushrooms, strung on a hemp cord garland. Accent your mushrooms with hand dyed vinyl buttons, and even learn some tips on how to dye your own buttons.
You’ll leave this workshop with your own hand made plush garland, as well as the skills and tools to make any felt creation you could dream of!
All supplies provided and beginners welcome. Make sure to bring a valid government-issued ID to enter into the venue. Included in the price of your ticket is one specialty cocktail sponsored by Grey Goose!
Gelli Plate Printmaking Workshop

Join us for a thrilling adventure of gelli plate printing at Millcreek Common with local artist and printmaker Shelby Pence of ShelbyARTifacts! In this workshop, Shelby will teach you the engaging, trendy process of monotype printmaking using gelli plates, acrylic paint & other fun materials! You’ll learn about texture, color, stencils and layering, then get the chance to experiment and create one-of-a-kind prints to hang in your house, cut up for a collage, bind into a journal or gift to a loved one!

Bold Flavor Vinegar Workshop

Begin your journey into the world of handmade ingredients at our beginner-friendly craft food workshop at Millcreek Common taught by local artisan, Martin James of Slide Ridge! In this class, you will be guided through the process of crafting bold-flavored vinegar. Learn how to infuse vinegar with your favorite herbs, spices and fruits, transforming everyday elements into robust flavors that elevate your meals. By the end of the class, you’ll leave with your very own bottle of custom, bold flavored vinegar and the skills to create more at home!
Beginners welcome and all supplies are provided.
Homemade Empanadas Workshop
with Ana Valdemoros, owner of Argentina’s Best Empanadas

Fill & fold (then eat!) delicious empanadas at this hands-on cooking class! Ana will teach attendees how to handcraft Argentine-style empanadas in two mouthwatering flavors: savory traditional beef and sweet strawberries & cream. Materials will be provided for each attendee to make and enjoy one dozen empanadas. No experience is needed—beginners are welcome!
Gnocchi Making Workshop
with Ana Valdemoros, owner of Argentina’s Best Empanadas
Tuesday, June 25 2024 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm MST | $42

Join us as we explore Argentina’s tasty Italian import, gnocchi pasta with instructor Ana Valdemoros. Participants will get to learn how to craft three vegetarian-friendly recipes for the pillowy pasta dumplings, using potatoes, beets and spinach to create three vibrant varieties. Workshop attendees will then master new techniques as they mix, cut, fold and cook the gnocchi. The workshop will conclude with attendees enjoying their culinary creations with delicious sauce prepared by Ana. You’ll want to serve gnocchi with every dish after this class!
All supplies provided and beginners welcome!

About the New American Workshop Series: With support from the Salt Lake City Arts Council, this workshop series consists of 6 craft classes taught by New American makers from around the world who have made Utah their home. Whether they be refugees, immigrants or children of immigrants, these instructors will share and teach the process behind their art form while attendees learn of the craft’s cultural significance.

Now we’re bringing that same energy to year-round workshop programming with STEM Labs! Join us for this series of curiosity-oriented makers workshops aimed at connecting science, technology, engineering & math to our established arts & crafts based programming. STEM Labs are designed to make STEM topics approachable, accessible & empowering to people of all ages and backgrounds.
