Craft Lake City is proud to host around fifty artisan workshops each year. Craft Lake City partners with local venues to provide these in-person crafting opportunities in a variety of fun and atmospheric settings. Take a workshop to perfect a skill, kick-start a new hobby, meet like-minded people and support the local maker movement!

Multicolor Printmaking Workshop 

with Anna Hansen, owner of The Hex Press

Wednesday, May 1, 2024 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm MST | $36 for members, $40 for non-members

Enjoy an evening of adventure into the world of two-color printmaking at this craft workshop taught by local artist Anna Hansen, owner of The Hex Press. In this class, you will learn how to create a two-color print using two block carvings. Anna will guide you through the basics of image transfer, registration, carving tips, safety tips and hand printing techniques. You’ll leave the class with your very own multicolored print, two carved blocks and the knowledge you need to continue your printmaking journey!

All supplies provided and beginners welcome. Recommended for ages 14 and up. Ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Perfume Making Workshop (21+)

with Kimberly Newton, owner of Esensually Yourz

Engage your senses and uplift your vibe at this perfume making workshop taught by Kimberly Newton of Esensually Yourz! Craft an exclusive perfume blend curated specifically for this class, called “The Epitome of Love.” This oil is filled with fresh scents that will boost one’s mood and confidence, while harnessing the individual aspects of each wearer. Filled with fresh notes of roses and orange, this perfume will help you come back into balance with yourself and give you the confidence you need to go out and attract all of your desires. Come learn about the spiritual and physical attributes of each ingredient while creating your new favorite perfume!

Included in the purchase price of the workshop ticket, attendees will enjoy a signature cocktail (or non-alcoholic mocktail!) at Alibi Bar & Place, handcrafted with care by Alibi’s talented bartenders. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to purchase additional beverages during the class if they so choose. 

This workshop is a 21+ event and you must have a valid government-issued ID to enter. No experience necessary and all supplies provided.

Printing & Printmaking 

with Jazmine Martinez

Thursday, May 9, 2024 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm MST | $45

Come relax with us for an evening of painting and printmaking at our mixed media workshop taught by local artist Jazmine Martinez at the PBS Utah News Studio. In this workshop, Jazmine will guide you through dynamic techniques for crafting a terracotta pottery-inspired painting, complete with relief printed decorations inspired by ancient Mesoamerican designs. Experience the joy of mixed media art as you blend textured acrylic paint with stunning embellishments using your very own hand carved (reusable!) rubber stamps. You’ll leave with insight into symbolism from ancient worlds, a beautifully unique work of art and the knowledge you need to continue your painting and printmaking journey!

All supplies provided and no experience necessary.

About the Instructor:

Jazmine Martinez studied at the University of Utah where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing, with a Minor in Health. She is passionate about visual art and the world of medicine, and uses imagery that is inspired by her Mesoamerican heritage in her artistic works.

About the New American Workshop Series: With support from the Salt Lake City Arts Council, this workshop series consists of 6 craft classes taught by New American makers from around the world who have made Utah their home.  Whether they be refugees, immigrants or children of immigrants, these instructors will share and teach the process behind their art form while attendees learn of the craft’s cultural significance.

Now we’re bringing that same energy to year-round workshop programming with STEM Labs! Join us for this series of curiosity-oriented makers workshops aimed at connecting science, technology, engineering & math to our established arts & crafts based programming. STEM Labs are designed to make STEM topics approachable, accessible & empowering to people of all ages and backgrounds.
