Create your own watercolor paintings inspired by the beauty of nature in this workshop with talented local artist and DIY Festival participant Laura Muir! Participants of all skill levels will learn how to use drawing and painting techniques to make stunning negative space watercolors that connect to the natural world.

Learn how to bind your own journal with exposed sewing techniques! Workshop instructor Allison Milham will lead participants through the fun and meditative process of Ethiopian-style bookbinding, a structure similar to the Coptic binding, which makes an excellent journal or sketchbook.

Local artist Chris Blackburn of Blackburn Studio uses vintage processes to create beautiful tintype photographs and cyanotype prints. In this workshop, Blackburn will teach participants how to create sun-printed cyanotypes using foliage and foraged materials. Attendees will collaborate to make a larger-than-life wall hanging, and then Blackburn will assist individual participants as they create cyanotypes on paper and fabric to take home.

Artisan Heather Leeflang’s jewelry is designed to present complex ideas reduced to their most minimal forms. In this workshop, Leeflang will teach us how to make beautiful earrings by forming linear shapes from copper and brass. She will torch the metal prior to the workshop, and each attendee will drill, bend, and pound unique, handmade earrings to wear or share.

A local designer and illustrator with a passion for the art of lettering, instructor Bre McCallum will teach participants the basic tools, strokes and techniques used in calligraphy. Local artisan Kirsten Moore is the owner of Freckle Face Collective, a local company that sells eccentric, upcycled and handmade pieces designed to enliven your living space. In this hands-on workshop, Moore will walk attendees through the fun process of mixing, molding and pouring a contemporary concrete plant holder to take home.
