What is the Craft Lake City Makers Mart?
Craft Lake City is partnering with Millcreek for the Second Annual Craft Lake City Makers Mart, running from April 16 to May 27 at Millcreek Common’s Public Market. This vibrant cash-and-carry market will showcase local makers, offering a dynamic space for the community to shop and enjoy special events. With its year-round attractions like a skate loop, climbing wall, and dining options, Millcreek Common provides the perfect setting for this curated project that aims to elevate Utah’s creative culture and support local artisans.

The Craft Lake City Makers Mart is designed to elevate Utah’s creative culture through showcasing local artisans.
Craft Lake City is selecting 15-30 talented local makers who create handmade, high-quality products. If you’re passionate about your craft and want to reach a wider audience, we’d love to see an application from you!

Event Details:
Dates: Wednesday, April 16, 2025 – Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Hours: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., 7 days a week
Makers Mart Mixer: Friday, May 2 | 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
*Accepted Makers are required to be present at the Makers Mart Mixer.
How It Works:
- Cash-and-Carry: Your products will be sold directly to customers on-site by Millcreek staff.
- Consignment Model: Millcreek staff will handle sales and inventory.
- **IMPORTANT NOTE** If you are accepted into the Craft Lake City Makers Mart, you must be available to restock your inventory within 24 hours of being contacted by Millcreek Common staff.
- Commission Fee: The Craft Lake City Makers Mart takes 25% commission of all sales. This commission covers operating costs such as tax, credit card fees and Millcreek staff support.
- Makers Mart Mixer: Attendance for participants is required for the Craft Lake City Makers Mart Mixer on Friday, May 2, 6 p.m – 8 p.m.
Eligibility:
The Craft Lake City Makers Mart at Millcreek Common is open to Utah-based makers only; dealers, agents, or representatives are not allowed. Craft Lake City reserves the right to reject applications that don’t meet these criteria, and any applicant found ineligible will forfeit their application fee.
- The Craft Lake City Makers Mart is open to Utah-based makers only. Preference will be given to applicants whose items are handmade or designed in Utah by the applicant.
- Participants must also apply and be accepted to the 17th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons at: https://craftlakecity.com/apply/event.php?event=11
- Accepted makers must check their emails and phone daily during mart dates, and respond to the Millcreek support staff within 24 hours for important information and inventory restocking needs.
- Applicants must be able to commit to attending the Makers Mart Mixer on Friday, May 2, 2025, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Millcreek Common.
- Applicants understand that this is a cash & carry model, and that they will not be present during the duration of the market, as it will be staffed by Millcreek.
- Applicants understand that a 25% commission on all sales taken by Millcreek Common, that will go toward Millcreek staffing the market. A final sales report will be presented to you at the end of the Makers Mart by Millcreek.
Original Work Regulation:
- All creations must be original, handcrafted work.
- No commercial, AI-generated, mass-produced or manufactured work that is not made by the maker(s) will be accepted.
- Upon submission of images, the maker guarantees the accuracy of the description of artwork presented and the authenticity of the artwork as original and created by their own hands.
- Craft Lake City reserves the right to reject any displays or items not in keeping with the character of the images submitted.
- All artwork exhibited at the Craft Lake City Makers Mart must be of the quality and style represented by the maker in images submitted with the application as well as of the media category for which they are accepted.
Exception: Work is originally designed by the maker then sent to the manufacturer for mass production.
Commitment to Availability:
- Accepted makers are required to attend the Makers Mart Mixer on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Millcreek Common.
- Accepted makers are not required to present during the Craft Lake City Makers Mart due to the cash-and-carry model, as Millcreek Commons will staff the market and process transactions.
- Accepted makers must check their emails and phone messages daily to monitor inventory and restock as needed, and respond to any messages from the Millcreek Commons support staff.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* Accepted makers must be available to restock your inventory within 24 hours of being contacted by Millcreek Common staff.
Application Fee:
The application fee is a non-refundable $15, to be paid online after completing the digital application. The application fee goes towards the cost of administrative processing and jurying, and the application will not be considered complete and officially submitted until the fee is paid.

Cash-and-Carry Model & Maker Fees:
The Craft Lake City Makers Mart operates as a cash-and-carry market, meaning all transactions will be completed on site in a retail environment. Millcreek Common will handle sales and take a 25% commission on all transactions to cover operating costs, including sales tax. Makers are not responsible for filing sales tax. A final sales report will be provided to each maker at the end of the market.
Market Space Info:
The Craft Lake City Makers Mart is located indoors in the Public Market area inside Millcreek Common, the first level of City Hall. The following are the “shop” space options for applicants:
- 5’x10′ Half-Market Storefront: Includes a designated space of 5′ deep x 10′ wide to set up a small “shop.” Exhibition space is limited to a 5’x10′ area only. If you require more space, Craft Lake City recommends applying for an 8’x8′ Market stall or a 10’x10’ Market Storefront. The 5’x10′ Market Stall will be shared with another maker (Millcreek Common staff will select your storefront partner).
- Shared 8’x8’ or 10’x10’ Market Storefront for Multiple Makers: Includes designated space of at least one wall and one table to set up a small “shop.” Shared space with 2-3 other artisans.
- 8’x8′ Market Stalls for an Individual Maker: Includes a designated space of 8’x8′ to set up a small “shop.”
- 10’x10′ Market Storefront for an Individual Maker: Includes a designated space of 10’x10′ to set up a small “shop.”
- Two Connected 8’x8′ Market Stalls for an Individual Maker: Includes a designated space of 18’x8′ to set up a larger “shop.”
**Millcreek Common staff reserves the right to make placement and “shop” size changes without notice.
The dimensions above indicate the amount of designated floor space selected makers will have for products AND customer foot traffic. Items may not be placed outside of the designated space. Selected makers are encouraged to decorate their “shop” space in a visually-pleasing way that showcases your brand and personality. If selected, Craft Lake City encourages makers to visit the Public Market at Millcreek Common to get acquainted with the space in order to understand how to best merchandise their shop.
About Electricity:
Thanks to Millcreek Common, accepted makers will have free access to electricity if needed!

- Artwork – Two-dimensional work created using painting, printmaking, photography, drawing, digital art, collage, illustration, or other techniques
- Baby & Child Products – Toys, children’s clothing, etc.
- Bath, Body & Apothecary – Skincare, soap, body oils, etc.
- Ceramics – Pottery
- Collective – Micro businesses that represent a group of local artisans united under a common goal or initiative
- Embroidery and Fiber Arts – Embroidered hoops, sewn and knit objects, macrame, etc.
- Home decor and housewares – Candles, plant holders, wall hangings, clocks, furniture, cooking tools, dinnerware, etc.
- Jewelry – Handcrafted necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings
- Mission-driven – Local nonprofits, organizations and businesses interested in sharing information about their missions and programs with the creative community
- Pet – Accessories designed for use by dogs, cats, or other household pets
- ReWorked Vintage Goods – Handmade goods incorporating older, upcycled materials
- Stationery – Paper goods, cards, journals, pens, etc.
- Sculpture – Sculptural artworks made from clay, found/upcycled materials, glass, wood, ceramic or metal
- Vintage – Curated vintage clothing, furniture, accessories & home goods (‘90s & Y2K styles or earlier)
- World Market – Micro-businesses that are owned and operated by creatives located in Utah who collaborate with makers outside of the country. This may apply to New Americans in our local community or individuals involved in humanitarian and/or nonprofit efforts related to creative business growth. The local business owner must be directly involved in the design and creative process, and must participate in fair trade practices. Limited availability; subject to approval by Craft Lake City.
Photographs in your Application:
Strong images of your work are valuable to your application. Focus on capturing images of five single products that can provide insight into your craftsmanship and creativity for the jury. Note: By providing these images, applicants give Craft Lake City consent to use them in promotional materials if accepted.

Selection Process:
After applications close, makers will be selected for this curation project by the Craft Lake City.
Maker Responsibilities & Safety:
- By applying and accepting Craft Lake City’s invitation to participate, all makers agree to comply with Craft Lake City, Millcreek City and Millcreek Common rules & regulations.
- While Millcreek Common will staff the Craft Lake City Makers Mart for the duration of the market, April 16 – May 27, the maker assumes all responsibility for safeguarding of their products and their displays. It is the maker’s responsibility to insure their property, which is highly recommended. Craft Lake City and Millcreek Common are not responsible for any lost, missing or stolen inventory during the Craft Lake City Makers Mart.
- Craft Lake City has the right to close the Craft Lake City Makers Mart Holiday Market if any unforeseen circumstances occur that would affect the safety of the event attendees or exhibitors. Makers are required to commit to participating in the entirety of the Craft Lake City Makers Mart, April 16 – May 27, and being available for the Makers Mart Mixer on May 2 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the time of application and during acceptance of their invitation. Late cancellations may affect the exhibitor’s future opportunity to participate in the Craft Lake City Makers Mart, DIY Festival or Holiday Market. By participating, the maker understands that abuse of any kind is not welcome.
- Any individual who displays negative, crude, crass, belligerent or any other non-exemplary behavior that causes discomfort towards any person present at the Makers Mart will be asked to leave. Craft Lake City reserves the right to determine what behaviors are deemed inappropriate and non-characteristic of Craft Lake City standards. We do not condone any racist, bigoted or unsafe behavior from any area of the event or within our community.
- The maker, when invited, agrees to hold harmless Craft Lake City, Millcreek City, Millcreek Common, Millcreek Employees, Eighteen Percent Gray, Craft Lake City Coordinators, Volunteers, Employees, the Venue and Venue Representatives, and Market Sponsors for any damage, loss or theft to artwork, displays or other personal property, or injury to their person, regardless of cause resulting from their participation in this event. The exhibitor agrees to abide by all the rules and regulations set.
Consignment Information:
The Craft Lake City Makers Mart is a cash-and-carry market, meaning all transactions will be completed directly on-site with customers. Makers will not be on-site for the duration of the market. Millcreek Common will manage all sales processes and take a 25% commission on all sales, which will cover operating costs such as staffing. At the end of the market, Millcreek will provide a comprehensive final sales report to each artisan, detailing their sales and commission deductions. This streamlined approach ensures a smooth and efficient experience for both artisans and customers.
Public Market at Millcreek Common will provide:
- Staff to manage inventory and sales
- Market Space to display your wares.
- Electricity is available at no additional cost.
- Selection of display items that can be used as availability allows. First come, first serve.
- POS System to track and report sales
- Final report prior to payment
- Prompt communication (24 hour response to calls or emails)
- Timely payment for sales, per contract terms
Maker Rules & Regulations
Setting Up Your Shop at the Craft Lake City Makers Mart:
- Makers may not load out of the Makers Mart early unless given a specific exemption by Millcreek Common and Craft Lake City staff prior to the event.
- Makers must use their assigned spot and shall not overflow into adjoining areas.
- Makers will not move any Millcreek Common property (chairs, tables, garbage cans, etc.) for any reason.
- Makers are invited to decorate their shop space in a visually pleasing manner in any way they choose.
- Every display must be installed so as to provide access and visibility of any fire panel, pull station, visual audio device, and/or exit signs. Venue reserves the right to update any fire or safety regulations at any time.
- There is no additional fee for using electricity.
- All equipment, extension cords, power strips, additional lighting, hand trucks, etc. are the maker’s responsibility. Only heavy-duty, three-prong, rubber or neoprene extension cords are permitted; ordinary two-wire extension cords are forbidden. Power strips are allowable but may not be “daisy-chained” by plugging one power strip into another.
The Craft Lake City Makers Mart Expectations:
- Makers are required to participate in the 17th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons on August 8, 9 & 10. Applications available HERE.
- Makers are required to check their email and phone daily, and respond to all communications from the Millcreek support staff within 24 hours.
- Makers may not sublease their spaces or sell items unrelated to those in their market application.
- Makers will be required to attend the Makers Mart Mixer on Friday, May 2, 2025, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., but makers will not be on-site for the duration of the market.
- No alcoholic beverages may be brought in from outside the venue. Makers violating this rule may be asked to leave by security.
- Controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and items prohibited by state or federal laws may not be produced, manufactured, dispensed, advertised or possessed at the Market.
- If selling knives or sharp objects of any kind, they must be boxed and sealed.
- Millcreek Common reserves the right to require exhibitors to remove or reorganize items in their space for safety or other concerns.
- All laws of the city, county and State of Utah must be strictly adhered to.
- Millcreek Common staff reserves the right to place invited makers in the space size they think will best fit your product.
- All makers are required to adhere to the rules outlined above. Failure to do so may result in removal from the event and may jeopardize your participation in future events.
