“Volunteers are an integral part of the Craft Lake City DIY Festival and are vital to the success of our festival. Without the volunteer help from our community, our festival simply would not exist.”                        —Angela H. Brown, Festival Director

Are volunteers still needed for 2016’s Craft Lake City DIY Festival?

Yes! We’re always in need of volunteers for the festival. As our festival grows each passing year, so does the number of volunteers needed.

Why should I volunteer?

Volunteers are an integral part of Craft Lake City’s DIY Festival and are vital to the success of the festival. Without the volunteer help from people like you, we could not produce this annual event.

What does a volunteer actually do?

We have a variety of positions available to fit everyone’s interests, personality and skills. Fill out our interest form to learn more.

Sounds fun, how do I sign up?

Please fill out the volunteer interest form here.

I represent a company and am interested in finding out how my employees can volunteer for the Craft Lake City DIY Festival. Whom do I contact?

Please email us at volunteer[at]craftlakecity.com to sign up. We love integrating businesses into our volunteer process.

Are there any meetings or trainings involved?

Yes. You will be asked to attend at least one training session, two weeks before the festival. Training sessions are generally one hour, and there are various times and days to choose from.

I am a returning volunteer. Do I still have to attend meetings/training?

Yes, elements change from year to year so yearly training is key for all of the information you’ll need to prepare yourself for the big event.  Training sessions are generally one hour and transpire a month before the festival.

What is the minimum number of hours required to volunteer?

We ask volunteers to sign up for a minimum of one 3-hour shift, but you are welcome to go above and beyond! There are numerous perks to signing up for two or more shifts.

When do I need to be available to volunteer?

Set up starts two days before the festival on August 5th and 6th. Volunteers will also be needed for both days the festival runs, August 7th from 10 AM – midnight and August 8th from 7:30 AM – midnight. Shifts are anywhere between 2 – 4 hours in duration. You can see exact shift times for each position one the volunteer sign up sheet.

What if I’m interested in more than one position or shift?

We highly encourage our volunteers to sign up for multiple shifts and explore what the festival has to offer by trying out different positions. We offer a variety of perks to show our appreciation for volunteers that help for multiple shifts or for more than one day. If a few shifts both days are not enough and you are interested in a full festival position working the full festival please email volunteer[at]craftlakecity.com

Is parking available to volunteers?

$5 parking will be offered in the Utah One/Gallivan/Marriot parking lot. This parking lot can be accessed by 200 S. Parking will also be available at the Walker Center across the street for $5 to $25, depending on how long you are parked there.

Street parking is free throughout the city on Sunday.

We encourage you to take advantage of Salt Lake City’s public transit via TRAX or Bus, walk, bike or even carpool to CLC.

Salt Lake County and the 222 So Main Group are also providing free parking at the 222 so Main St. parking garage on Saturday Aug. 13 and Sunday Aug 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight.

Craft Lake City has partnered with the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective to provide complimentary bike valet services. Tipping the bike valet is encouraged!

Is there an age limit for volunteering? Volunteers must be 16 or older (with parent permission under 18) or accompanied by a parent or Guardian.

How will I know if I’ve been accepted as a volunteer?

After submitting your volunteer application form you’ll be contacted within 72 hours by one of our Volunteer Coordinators. You may also call us at 801.906.8521 or email us at volunteer@craftlakecity.com

Can I volunteer with my friend/family/person?

Yes! Volunteering is more fun with friends, so please help us by inviting your friends and family.

I have community hours that I need to incur. Can Craft Lake City help me accrue community service hours?
Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. For every hour of volunteer service donated to us, we may sign off towards one’s community service. However, it is the volunteer’s responsibility to get this approved in advance by Craft Lake City and the entity requesting community service hours. A government issued ID will be required for verification purposes at the time of signing off hours.

I want to volunteer, but I’m not available the days of the festival. Are there any other opportunities?

Yes, we have numerous volunteer positions available. You may sign up here and one of our volunteer coordinators will contact you within 72 hours.

What if I still have more questions?

We have answers! Please send us an email to volunteer[at] craftlakecity.com.

“By giving just a few hours of my time to help set up or pass out information, I’m giving the artists the chance to focus their time and energy to share with the community their talents instead of worrying about festival details. Not only did I have a great time helping but I also met some great people who I now call my friends.”
—Shantel Mota-Harmon, 2011, 2012 CLC Volunteer
