Blue Sky Renewable Energy “Greening” Craft Lake City 2012 Festival

Blue Sky renewable energy “greening” Craft Lake City 2012 festival

SALT LAKE CITY – In its 4th year, the annual Craft Lake City festival is not only better than ever, it’s also greener! Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program is supporting renewable energy equal to the amount of electricity that will be used at the Aug. 11 outdoor festival celebrating Utah’s Do It Yourself culture.

The free event will be held at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City, from Noon to 10 p.m., and will feature arts and crafts, live entertainment and music, demonstrations and food.

The utility’s Blue Sky program is buying renewable energy credits from a newly-developed western region wind farm on behalf of the Craft Lake City 2012 festival.

“The 7,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy being supported by Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program for this event will avoid nearly 4.4 tons of carbon dioxide emissions,” said Alene Bentley, Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager. “The associated environmental benefits are equivalent to not driving a car more than 8,850 miles or planting 102 trees,” Bentley said.

The Craft Lake City 2012 “greening” is made possible by more than 34,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Utah who choose to support Blue Sky renewable energy.

Blue Sky is Rocky Mountain Power’s voluntary program that gives customers a convenient way to support wind-powered electric generation in the region and help fund new community-based renewable energy projects that may include solar, wind, geothermal, low impact hydro, wave or tidal action or low emissions biomass.

Rocky Mountain Power customers can enroll in the Blue Sky program for as little as $1.95 per month for each 100-kilowatt-hour block of renewable energy they sign up to support. Blue Sky is Green-e Energy certified, ensuring that customers are supporting new renewable resources in compliance with environmental and consumer protection standards.

Blue Sky representatives will be available at the Craft Lake City festival to answer questions and assist customers who would like to enroll in the Blue Sky program. For more information about Blue Sky, visit www.rockymountainpower.net/bluesky.
