Since 2022, Craft Lake City’s Youth Entrepreneur Program has nurtured creativity and confidence in young makers by providing opportunities to develop creative skills, entrepreneurship mindset and real-world business experience in a supportive environment. In preparation for their culminating showcase at Kid Row during the 18th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons, participants engage in crafting sessions, business workshops, networking and a practice market at the Downtown Farmer’s Market.
Applications for the Spring Class are open now through March 17, and applications for the Summer Class are open through May 13.
“It’s such a rewarding experience to work alongside incredible partners to give young creatives a space to grow, build confidence and see what’s possible,” says Tiana Young, Artisan and Programs Manager at Craft Lake City. “We’re excited to keep empowering the next generation of creative business owners and shaping Utah’s thriving maker community in this meaningful way.”
The 2026 program marks Craft Lake City’s fifth year partnering with Utah Afterschool Network and second year partnering with VentureLab, reflecting the program’s continued growth and long-term impact.
“At VentureLab, we believe that an entrepreneurial mindset is build best by doing,” says Lindly Fernandez, VentureLab Program Coordinator. “Partnering with Craft Lake City allows students to explore entrepreneurship by merging creativity with hands-on experience, helping them turn ideas into action and building the confidence and real-world skills they’ll carry with them far beyond the program.”
“We’re grateful for our five-year partnership with Craft Lake City and the opportunity to support youth through afterschool programs where they feel safe, valued, and inspired to grow,” says Ben Trentleman, Executive Director at Utah Afterschool Network.
Through its partnership with VentureLab, Utah Afterschool Network, the Salt Lake City Public Library, the Urban Food Connection of Utah and the Downtown Alliance, Craft Lake City continues to foster an innovative and equitable creative community. Youth entrepreneurs will gain valuable experience like delivering successful business pitches, developing products and inventory, practicing customer interactions, setting business goals and learning from seasoned business owners.
