Craft Lake City invites the public to attend a free virtual “Lunch & Learn” discussion celebrating Celebration of the Hand: The Soul of the West, the organization’s newest outdoor art exhibition featuring photography by Utah-based artist Seth Stern. The online event will take place Friday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. and will offer attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the artist about the inspiration, stories and experiences behind each piece in the exhibition.
During the live virtual discussion, moderated by Craft Lake City Executive Director Angela H. Brown, Stern will share insight into his story, the exhibition and how he documents cowboy culture across the American West. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the artist, ask questions and learn more about the work currently on display in downtown Salt Lake City.

About the Artist: Seth Stern is a photographer whose journey to becoming “The Cowboy Photographer” began after leaving the film industry in Los Angeles and living out of his car while traveling the country. Inspired by the outlaw country music he was raised on, Stern became devoted to photographing a world far different from his own through intimate black-and-white portraiture and candid imagery. Stern views his work as both personal redemption and testimony, using photography to explore faith, healing and the transformative power of human connection.
Currently on display throughout downtown Salt Lake City, The Soul of the West features 14 large-scale black-and-white photographs installed in outdoor exhibition frames along Broadway (300 South) between 200 East and Main Street. The exhibition is free to view and accessible to the public day and night throughout the months of May and June.
Craft Lake City’s Celebration of the Hand program presents rotating public exhibitions that showcase artists, ideas and stories relevant to Utah communities while making art accessible outside of traditional gallery spaces.
