Craft Lake City is set to host its inaugural Makers Mart at Millcreek Common, with a grand opening on Thursday and running through Oct. 20, 2024. The market will transform the Common into a bustling hub of creativity and craftsmanship, showcasing a diverse array of 22 local artisans and makers.
The Makers Mart promises a unique shopping experience. Various vendors offer handmade candy, edible pet products, home decor, jewelry, art and more. This six-week, cash-and-carry market aims to highlight local Utah creators’ talent while allowing shoppers to purchase unique, handcrafted items directly from the makers themselves.
“We really want to get Craft Lake City’s mission out there beyond Salt Lake City and into other communities; it works well for us to partner with other cities to do that,” said Angela Brown, executive director of Craft Lake City. “We love working with other pockets across the Wasatch Front to create something special for their community. The cash-and-carry format is something we have never done, and we thought, ‘How fun.’ It is a great way for us to create something unique for the Millcreek community.”
In addition to the wide range of products available for purchase, the Makers Mart will feature various workshops and special events. From hands-on crafting sessions to artist demonstrations, visitors will have plenty of opportunities to immerse themselves in the creative environment.
Among the participating vendors at the Makers Mart are Kristi and Derek Sahagun of Steadfast Rebels, which makes unique apparel, stickers, tote bags and roller-skate accessories ranging in price from $4 to $50.
“We have done DIY Fest and the holiday market, so when they sent the email that they are doing their first central checkout market at Millcreek, we said ‘heck yes’,” Kristi Sahagun said. “This is our first time doing something like this, so it is a test run. We have so much awesome stuff. We hope people come check it out.”
Millcreek Common’s public market is an exciting hub combining local agriculture and artisan creativity. The market features a farmers market where fresh produce, organic goods and homemade treats are available for shoppers looking to support local farmers. The Summer Bazaar is a flea market that showcases vintage arts and crafts, offering a treasure trove of unique finds and handmade items.
With the addition of the Makers Mart, Millcreek Common aims to further enrich this community gathering space, inviting even more local creators to share their talents and products. This blend of fresh food, vintage treasures, and handmade crafts creates an immersive experience that celebrates the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the Millcreek area.
“Craft Lake City is an amazing organization; what they offer to the community to celebrate creativity and collaboration aligns with our focus at Millcreek Common,” said Lacy Gill, public market manager for Millcreek Common. “We love providing a platform for artisans and vendors to grow their business, connect with new audiences and thrive.”
