We recently gathered at the Garage on Beck, to learn all about embroidery from CLC Alum and alternative crafter, Marie Brian of The Cotton Floozy. Thirty-five participants came to the Garage to enjoy embroidery, food, drinks and plenty of laughs.
Marie put together packs for each participant, containing a needle, thread, quilt batting, felt, one small hoop and a set of Marie’s ‘Handy Dandy Guide to Life and Stitching, but Mostly Stitching’. Marie’s instructions combined with her wit and humor is enough to make even the most impatient of people want to learn how to embroider. She makes it fun in a way that your grandma never could. No offense. For example, step nine is: Preheat your glue gun. If you do not own a glue gun, that means you have a life. Congratulations.
Luckily the Happy Valley Crafters joined Marie to make sure there was a couple extra teachers around to answer everyone’s questions.
Alternative crafting is in a way, cathartic. Being able to ‘stitch it out’, allows you to release your thoughts about something in a creative, none offensive (usually) way. Between the food, drinks, laughs and cathartic embroidery, the workshop participants most likely left feeling a bit less stressed than they were when they showed up.
Be sure to follow The Cotton Floozy on Facebook as well as her blog. Her daily posts will shine a bit of light and laughter into your everyday activities.
