Sold Out: Journal Making Workshop with Allison Milham

Salt Lake City, March 7 – Craft Lake City® and the Book Arts Program at the University of Utah are pleased to announce that the co-presented Journal Making Workshop with Allison Milham, scheduled to be held Thursday, March 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Stockist in Salt Lake City, is currently sold out.

Individuals without a ticket may join the waitlist in person at the workshop venue fifteen minutes prior to the workshop. Full waitlist policies are available at craftlakecity.com/workshops/.

In the workshop, book artisan Allison Milham will guide participants through the process of making a personal handbound journal. Attendees will learn the versatile buttonhole long-stitch technique, which is a multi-signature, non-adhesive binding. This binding features an exposed, decorative sewing on the spine and opens completely flat, making it ideal for a sketchbook, journal or photo album.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Book Arts Program and The Stockist to bring the inspiring art of bookmaking to the community,” says Angela Brown, Executive Director of Craft Lake City. “Allison brings a wealth of experience to this workshop, and we look forward to seeing the innovative journals our attendees create with their new bookbinding skills.”

Allison Leialoha Milham is a book artist, musician, and proprietor of Morning Hour Studio. Milham earned a BA in Studio Art from San Francisco State University (2006) and her MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama (2012). She has taught book arts and printmaking at the college level for the past five years and is currently serving as the Book Arts Program Community Outreach Coordinator at The University of Utah. Her work is held in multiple public collections including Yale University Arts Library and The Library of Congress and is represented by Vamp & Tramp Booksellers and Booklyn.

Future bookmaking opportunities are available through the Book Arts Program at the University of Utah at lib.utah.edu/collections/book-arts/. Upcoming Craft Lake City workshops are available at craftlakecity.com/workshops.
