SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City residents now have another resource from which to learn new DIY techniques, as Craft Lake City and West Elm team up to offer a series of monthly workshops at the West Elm store in City Creek Center. The first workshop, Dream Catcher Jewelry, is scheduled for January 31 from 7 – 9 p.m.
West Elm, a home furnishings retailer known for helping customers find their personal style at home, initially teamed up with Craft Lake City last fall to celebrate the opening of their first store in Utah at City Creek Center. Through this partnership, Craft Lake City and West Elm worked with Etsy to showcase decorative accessories and art made by artisans (who had previously participated in Craft Lake City) in the West Elm store. In addition, CLC artisan Holly Jones presented a chandelier installation piece designed specifically for the space, and in December, CLC artisan Michelle Christens hosted a dishware-decorating workshop. Based on the success of the initial partnership, West Elm and Craft Lake City will continue their collaborative efforts into 2013. The goal is to provide a haven for art and empower minds with creative fervor, spurring participants to stylize their homes with their own, personalized home-décor and art pieces.
“CLC’s continued partnership with West Elm is a reflection of the brand’s commitment to Utah’s handmade culture and community development,” says Craft Lake City Director Angela Brown. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to present this workshop series to the public.”
Participants can register for the first workshop of the Craft Lake West Elm DIY Workshop Series online using Skillshare. The materials fee is $10. West Elm City Creek Center is located at 51 S. Main Street. Pre-registration is required for all workshops.
