SALT LAKE CITY, Friday, April 16, 2010 – SLUG Magazine’s alternative arts and crafts festival is now accepting applications for the second annual Craft Lake City.
The second annual Craft Lake City will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City. The event is free and open to the public.
Craft Lake City 2010 applications will be accepted beginning April 12, until Friday, June 4. All submissions will be evaluated by a team of judges, and applicants will be notified of their status by mid-June 2010. Artists selected will be invited to vend at this year’s alternative arts festival.
“Salt Lake’s response to the first annual Craft Lake City was remarkable,” said Angela Brown, SLUG Magazine Editor and Craft Lake City Organizer. “Over 120 artists submitted to participate as vendors and a juried panel had the difficult job of selecting only 75 of these artists to participate. This single-day event included 15 sponsor booths, eight local bands and over 3,500 visitors.”
Craft Lake City is an outdoor arts festival that will showcase over 100 artists, specializing in handmade goods. Affordably priced items like silk-screened posters, reconstructed clothing, knitted items and jewelry will be available. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day and will include craft demonstrations, street performers and musical acts. Craft Lake City is modeled after alternative national craft festivals like the Renegade Craft Fair and the Bazaar Bizarre. The event is sponsored by the Gallivan Center and hosted by SLUG Magazine.
Despite the construction going on at the Gallivan Center, Craft Lake City 2010 will still call the Gallivan home. We’ve researched the available space and are excited about this year’s use of Gallivan Avenue. The unique space will be more condensed, bringing the artists closer to one another and opening up space for more vendors. There will also be a band stage set up on Gallivan Avenue for entertainment throughout the day.
