Craft Lake City Rocket Launch Program For Title I Schools Returns With Google Fiber As Sponsor For Second Year

Craft Lake City is elated to announce Google Fiber’s continued sponsorship of the Title I School Rocket Launch Program! Craft Lake City, with support of Google Fiber, began the rocket launch program in 2022 following a successful introduction of rocket launches at the 2021 DIY Festival. The program is based in STEM education and offers a thrilling way to learn as participants design plastic 2 liter soda bottles and then launch them into the sky. In its first year, the rocketry curriculum served approximately 2,322 youth and their family members at 5 Title I schools in Salt Lake City, West Valley City and South Jordan. This year’s rocketry program will kick off at DaVinci Academy in Ogden, UT on May 30, 2023 as part of a sign-up field day event–a new format for the rocket launch events. The partnership between Craft Lake City and Google Fiber will continue even further in August with Google Fiber’s returning sponsorship of the Google Fiber STEM Building at the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons.

“Our year-round STEM efforts and continued growth wouldn’t be possible without the support of Google Fiber as our long-term DIY Fest STEM partner,” says Lyndi Perry, Craft Lake City’s STEM Coordinator. “Thanks to our partnership, Craft Lake City’s STEM programming continues to educate and connect communities through concepts like rocketry at Title I elementary schools, as well as bring awareness to Craft Lake City and Google Fiber’s community efforts.”

The 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons, taking place on Friday, August 11, Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, 2023, will feature over 350 local artisans & vintage vendors, dozens of foodies, over 50 youth entrepreneurs, over 40 performers & over 40 STEM exhibitors over three days at the Utah State Fairpark. The Google Fiber STEM Building, a beloved feature of the DIY Fest, brings together over 40 Utah DIY engineers, scientists, tech hobbyists, tinkerers, major research institutions, & local businesses while offering engaging demos & all-ages hands-on activities for festival-goers. The Google Fiber STEM Building even offers a DIY water rocket launch activity for festival goers of all ages, as well as free educational content from our special partners like the STEM Action Center and Red Butte Garden.
