Salt Lake City, UT – The show must go on for the 12th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival presented by Harmons. Rather than fully canceling due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Craft Lake City is taking this year’s festival virtual August 7-9, 2020.
“It is an exciting time to allow our creative community to be even more innovative,” said Jacqueline Whitmore, owner of Copperhive Vintage, Craft Lake City DIY Festival past participant and Craft Lake City Advisory Board Member. “All local makers, DIY engineers and performers will still have the opportunity to participate in the annual event, as it is redesigned in a virtual format.”
The Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival is Utah’s largest local-centric arts festival. Originally, the three-day event was scheduled to be held in-person the second weekend of August at the Utah State Fairpark. Now, Craft Lake City will incorporate local artisans, engineers, vintage vendors, craft food creators, musicians, dancers, youth makers, sponsors, as well as the Google Fiber STEM and craft workshops onto a digital platform.
“The DIY Festival typically sees large crowds that do not allow for effective social distancing,” said Craft Lake City Executive Director Angela H. Brown. “Taking the festival online is the best way to proceed that will not only ensure that safety remains a high priority, but also allows for our creative community to continue to grow and thrive during these challenging times.”
In the coming weeks, Craft Lake City will be extending its DIY Festival participant application and scholarship deadlines, redefining what participation in the festival looks like, as well as providing new opportunities for local artisans to reach an online audience that expands beyond the state line.
Additionally, artisans who have already submitted a participant or scholarship application will still be considered for the virtual DIY Festival this year. Those who have not yet had a chance to apply are encouraged to do so by visiting the Craft Lake City website.
Craft Lake City will also continue to seek partnerships in the community to help spread our platform to further connections for our artists/vendors and musicians/performers.
