The 4th Annual Craft Lake City to Commence Sat., Aug. 11, 2012
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, August 7, 2012 – The 4th Annual Craft Lake City presented by SLUG Magazine is fast approaching, taking place on Sat., Aug. 11 at the Gallivan Center from noon-10pm. The annual DIY arts festival will feature over 200 local artisans and DIY Engineers exhibiting and selling their wares.
Craft Lake City is also excited to provide live entertainment by local performers and musicians on two stages, including dance troupes Triple Moon, Hathor Dance Collective and Municipal Ballet Co.; and local bands Joshua Payne Orchestra, Night Sweats, SubRosa, and many more. A variety of local food vendors will also be in attendance, including six food trucks making appearances throughout the day. Some of the day’s food vendors include Chow Truck, Lewis Bros., Submarinos, Ramblin’ Rose, The Pie Pizzeria and Melty Way, offering grilled-cheese gourmet fare. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
Craft Lake City launched a new category for 2012, DIY Engineers, in order to expand the term “craft” to include handmade items in all areas. “This classification embraces the art of scientific innovation and homemade ingenuity. I am excited to see what Utahns will offer in this exciting new field,” said Angela Brown, Craft Lake City Festival Director and SLUG Magazine Editor.
Craft Lake City strives to promote the local DIY community and fosters community involvement and awareness through its annual festival. The festival is expanding: The 2012 festival has a larger number of DIY participant booths and tables than last year, and the busking area (for street musician performances) has expanded. This year’s festival is expected to have the highest attendance yet, with an estimated 12,000 visitors.
