Craft Lake City and Utah Afterschool Network are thrilled to announce the latter as returning sponsor for the Kid Row special feature area at the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons!
Starting in 2017, Kid Row at the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival has served as a pop-up market for local business-minded children & young teens to exhibit & sell their handmade goods in a real festival setting. This opportunity affords them the chance to explore so many different principles of running a small business, such as customer service, handling transactions, making sales, pricing their items, merchandising their table and so much more.
This fan-favorite event feature area will be found in the grassy area near the north entrance of the Utah State Fairpark on Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Kid Row Sponsored By Utah Afterschool Network highlights the incredible talents of kid and teen makers based here in Utah while providing an opportunity for these young makers to earn some cash for their handmade items. As it has since the start, the area will feature handmade goods in a wide variety of mediums, including ceramics, artwork, stickers, jewelry, home decor, accessories, craft food and more. For the first time ever, Utah Afterschool Network & Craft Lake City have expanded the age range to include 15-18 year old exhibitors in Kid Row, as well, in an effort to provide formative entrepreneurial experiences to both kids and older teens.
“We are learning more and more about how beneficial it is for kids and teens to explore entrepreneurship. This experience helps them apply concepts they learn in school, empowers their sense of self-value and creativity, and introduces them to a community of entrepreneurial peers. It is truly magical to see what they are capable of when given the opportunity to showcase their unique and inspirational talents,” says Ben Trentelman, Executive Director of Utah Afterschool Network.
Craft Lake City is proud to collaborate with Utah Afterschool Network throughout the spring season to bring even more hands-on educational experiences to Utah kids by way of the Youth Artisan Entrepreneur Program. Their generous funding allows us to provide elementary- and middle school-aged youth with school visits from real working artists, as well as equip them with a plethora of arts & craft supplies to explore while creating an inventory of goods to then sell at Kid Row Presented By Utah Afterschool Network.
Utah Afterschool Network’s continued sponsorship of Kid Row at the 15th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival Presented By Harmons will continue to allow youth artisans up to 18 years old to sell, promote, and exhibit their work while learning the principles of running a small creative business.
