12th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival
Scholarship Applications Now Open
Opportunities Available for Local Artisans, DIY Engineers and Kid Row Participants
Salt Lake City, January 28 – Craft Lake City® is pleased to announce Artisan, STEM and Kid Row Scholarship applications are now open for the 12th Annual DIY Festival®. The original Artisan Scholarship and Mentor program was launched in 2017 as part of the organization’s DIY Festival Inclusion Program for the 9th Annual DIY Festival. This year Craft Lake City is expanding the program to include STEM exhibitors by adding a new scholarship opportunity for STEM applicants. Additionally, Craft Lake City is building upon its Kid Row scholarship opportunity, which was launched last year.
The Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival is distinct in its focus on creating diverse avenues of opportunity for local creatives. Craft Lake City believes there are “makers”—artisans, entrepreneurs, and engineers—in all communities. In support of this goal, Craft Lake City has designed the DIY Festival Inclusion Program, which features scholarships for participants in the categories of Artisan, STEM and Kid Row.
Artisan Scholarship and Mentor Program: Created in 2017, the Artisan Scholarship and Mentor Program offers five eligible first-time DIY Festival artisans with waived participation fees, business training, networking opportunities, and one-on-one mentorship with a seasoned creative before, during and after the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival. Interested artisans must first apply to participate in the DIY Festival by April 6, and will then be individually invited to submit a scholarship application. For more information on eligibility requirements, the application process, and related events, please visit https://craftlakecity.com/artisan-scholarship/.
Mentors who participate in the Artisan Scholarship and Mentor Program are seasoned makers and business owners who donate their time in support of the program. Jaqueline Whitmore, who served as an Artisan Mentor for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 DIY Festivals, said, “The Artisan Scholar and Mentor Program is something I look forward to being apart of every year. It’s made me realize the power of an artisan community, and how important cultivating a strong, supportive, and community based craft and science culture is here in Utah.”
STEM Scholarship: The STEM Scholarship is designed to support local STEM organizations and individuals who require financial assistance to participate in the Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival. A limited number of STEM Scholarships will be offered to DIY Festival applicants each year, and recipients will have their exhibitor fees fully or partially waived for the 12th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival. Interested DIY Engineers and STEM organizations must first apply to participate in the DIY Festival by April 6, and will then be individually invited to submit a scholarship application. Kid Row Scholarship: Craft Lake City offers a limited number of financial scholarships to select Kid Row participants. The Kid Row Scholarships provide eligible kid artisans with waived exhibitor tabling fees. Interested Kid Row artisans must submit a Kid Row application by April 6, and can indicate their interest in being considered for a scholarship on the Kid Row application. Craft Lake City’s year-round programming is supported in part by the residents of Salt Lake County through the Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) Program and through the Salt Lake City Arts Council, George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, and Utah Arts & Museums, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The 12th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival is presented by Harmons, and funded in part by the Salt Lake City Corporation.
