PBS Utah and Craft Lake City Partner For Craft Workshops Programming in 2024

Salt Lake-based arts nonprofit Craft Lake City and PBS Utah have announced their partnership in producing a number of community workshops this year as part of Craft Lake City’s year-round Community Workshop program. The program invites local art professionals to teach their craft to community members at a range of venues. In joining as the latest venue partner, PBS Utah will host a total of three workshops throughout the year between March and September.

“These workshops are a wonderful opportunity to highlight and uplift our diverse community through direct, creative engagement in addition to our programming,” says Community Engagement Coordinator Melissa Lind. “We’re thrilled to work with Craft Lake City on bringing these classes to our audience, each of which connects to our mission of deepening our understanding of the world, whether that be through learning about environmentalism with Linda Bergstrom or studying Mesoamerican art techniques with Jazmine Martinez.”

Woven Wall Hanging, the first community workshop hosted in PBS Utah’s news studio at the Eccles Broadcast Center, took place on March 14, 2024 and invited attendees to create their own stunning piece of wall art using ethically-sourced and recycled fibers. The second class in this year’s series is set for May 9, bringing local artist Jazmine Martinez to PBS Utah for a Painting & Printmaking Workshop inspired by terracotta pottery and Mesoamerican design.

“We can’t wait to see the crafts and positive change that we create through this collaboration,” says Craft Lake City Artisan & Programs Manager, Tiana Young. “The PBS Utah team’s care and excitement for this project goes hand-in-hand with ours, and we’re thrilled to be working with them on uplifting Utah’s creative culture.”

Craft Lake City is proud to host around fifty artisan workshops each year, partnering with local venues to provide these in-person crafting opportunities in a variety of fun and atmospheric settings. The Craft Workshop program began in 2012 and has continued to be a core part of Craft Lake City’s mission to educate, promote and inspire local artisans while elevating the creative culture of the Utah arts community through science, technology and art.
