Salt Lake City, UT – August 7, 2024 – Craft Lake City is electrified to announce it will be hosting one of the Utah STEM Action Center’s Pop-up Maker Fairs at Craft Lake City’s 16th Annual DIY Festival Presented by Harmons on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. This will be a special one-day feature in the Google Fiber STEM Building, where Craft Lake City aims to prove everyone can be a maker!
The Utah STEM Action Center is a major supporter of Craft Lake City STEM, providing grant funding and support that helps highlight the breadth of STEM in Utah. They’re a fixture at the DIY Fest, thrilling all ages with access to advanced technology presented alongside simple, thoughtful projects that help folks connect to STEM subjects.
This year, this amazing organization will extend their DIY Fest booth, located inside the Google Fiber STEM Building, with a Pop-up Maker Fair event as part of STEM Action Center’s Young Makers and Future Innovators Program. The event will take place Saturday only, Aug. 10, during the regular hours of the festival from noon to 8 p.m., and is included in the normal cost of admission.
This initiative uses hands-on STEM learning experiences to engage children ages 3-8 and provide all Utah families with new opportunities. These maker events are funded through a grant from bioMerieux and designed to be replicable, affordable and sustainable over time. Six nearby communities (West Valley City, Layton/Clearfield, Kearns, Taylorsville/Murray, Midvale and Rosepark/Fairpark) have been identified to access this learning resource, using themed Innovation Stations which focus on the design process and problem solving.
The activity themes will include: Cardboard Creations, Electronics, Paper Crafts, Edible Engineering, Secret Codes, and Math Magic. The program has already been successfully tested, and parents loved the fantastic kid-oriented volunteers, the many make-and-take items that can be easily repeated at home, and the way these activities accessed children’s natural curiosity by integrating STEM with art, music and play.
The STEM Action Center, bioMirieux and Utah State University Extension/4-H Program have collaborated to provide the fairs. With such an epic group of supporters, you really shouldn’t miss your chance to learn and create something new! Stop by the Google Fiber STEM Building and see how we are elevating Utah’s creative culture in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math together!
