Craft Lake City marketer Kamaile Harris wanted our supporters to know about the Women of the Mountains Conference at Utah Valley University.

FREE CONFERENCE ADDRESSING GENDER AND SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES WITHIN MOUNTAIN REGIONS

The Fourth International Women of the Mountains Conference (WOMC) will be held from October 7 – 9 at Utah Valley University in Orem. This free conference is established by Utah Valley University and the Kyrgyz National Centre for Development of Mountain Regions under the umbrella of the United Nations’ Mountain Partnership, addressing critical issues pertaining to all women and children living within mountainous regions throughout the world. It promotes a gender affirming agenda throughout the world, including our own Rocky Mountains. WOMC was established in 2007 and brings awareness of specific issues pertaining to women and children, including: mountain sustainability; family values, heritage & culture; health and mortality; education; economic development; human trafficking and exploitation; and leadership.

It’s anticipated that the WOMC will have attendance of more than 1,000 attendees including officials from the State Department, UN Women, Mountain Partnership, the World Bank, ambassadors of various mountain nations including by not limited to Ambassadors of Turkmenistan to the U.S. and Kyrgyzstan to the U.N., scholars and NGOs from overseas and the Rocky Mountain region. Most important will be the involvement of many local institutions and individual enthusiasts of gender causes from North America, who seek to make a difference in the lives of mountain communities, locally and world-wide.

The conference is created using a grassroots forum, and has been driven, sustained and expanding since 2007 by students and Utahns, showing the power of networking and partnerships while promoting the global gender cause advocated by the United Nations. WOMC has been previously featured by the United Nations for our uniqueness and high level of contribution to the global gender agenda.
